That is the opinion of Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Son (Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) on the issue of deviation of a part of young people today.

Recently, there has been a lot of negative information about the deviant social ethics of some young people. To guide young people away from deviant behaviors, changes are needed from each individual and group of people. We cannot look at young people by one-sided evaluation, judgment or criticism, but first of all, we must understand...

From the perspective of a psychologist and education manager, what do you think about the increase in deviant behavior among young people in our country today?

Deviant behavior among young people is increasing in modern social life. These behaviors not only exist in real social life but also manifest vividly and colorfully in interactions on the Internet. It can be a temporary expression, or it can last for a long time and become a choice or value. I expect natural changes and adjustments according to age, maturity and self-assessment.

The reason may be that young people are exposed too much to digital technology and communication environments; social behavior is no longer limited to the classroom, school, and residential area but in a flat world. Therefore, young people can be influenced, imitated, or influenced by online trends, which are factors that cause deviant behavior with quite complex manifestations.

How do you evaluate the impact of social networks and technology on the formation and spread of deviant behaviors among young people?

Social networks and technology are among the necessary conditions that contribute to creating deviant behaviors among young people. But in terms of basic conditions, perhaps the current general education is not close enough and loving enough, caring enough, and kind enough to become "barriers" to prevent deviant behaviors. Meanwhile, the imprints from strong stimuli that are innovative, impressive, and create a prominent factor or "wave" have the power to make the behavior of some young people easily influenced.

What experiences can Vietnam learn from other countries in preventing and addressing the problem of youth inequality?

I think we have certain advantages and difficulties in educating standard behavior of some young people today.

Reality shows that each country has its own advantages and disadvantages in preventing and solving the problem of deviations among young people, each measure or model has certain limitations. Vietnam has its own fundamental values, valuable educational models, and strengths that can be completely maintained.

"To guide young people away from deviant behaviors requires change from each individual and group of people. We cannot look at young people with one-sided assessments, judgments or criticisms, but first of all, we must understand...".

However, that does not mean we should be subjective, but should consider referring to countries with similar cultures to Vietnam such as China, Singapore, Thailand, etc. with many psychological education programs in schools that have helped young people become more aware of the impact of social networks on psychology. For example, online workshops, life skills classes, extracurricular educational activities, home psychological counseling programs, educational programs to prevent deviant behavior, and increased coordination of psychological counseling and school social work.

The fundamental thing is that each measure and model aims at adjusting the young person himself, developing better, minimizing errors or risks of deviation in the development journey.

So what is the role of family, school and society in educating and guiding young people to stay away from deviant behaviors, in your opinion?

Families, schools and society must raise their own awareness of deviant behavior, as well as methods of education, counseling and support for deviant behavior when discovering their children have this behavior. Moreover, each individual must adjust and constantly improve themselves before the strong impact of life's reality with the values we have chosen and are choosing.

In addition, to guide young people away from deviant behaviors, changes are needed from each individual and group of people. We cannot look at young people by evaluating, judging or criticizing, blaming, but first of all, we must understand and sympathize. From the basis of sympathy, we will interact positively and make adjustments; then, stand together, share to make positive changes.

Do you have any specific recommendations on educational policies and programs to help our country's youth form positive life values?

To make this goal a reality, it requires the participation of relevant parties, especially research from practice and constant updating. Furthermore, actions must ensure thorough understanding from awareness to attitude, and compliance with basic general regulations.

"Kindness in behavior today is not enough to demonstrate human values and qualities, but from a certain perspective, when people live kindly, they will have many opportunities and ways to control themselves. If we are not kind enough to ourselves as well as in taking care of and developing ourselves every day, it will be very difficult to show kindness to life and live a happy life."

Firstly , integrating cognitive content about deviant behavior should be considered in related subjects such as ethics, literature, experiential activities, life skills education, school psychology counseling... This needs to be evaluated and constantly improved because young people are very sensitive, flexible, dynamic and have many opportunities.

Second , the school should increase the organization of talks, invite experts to share and answer questions for students and parents about deviant behavior and how to respond. The fundamental thing is to flexibly implement the scale and form of implementation, considering this an educational activity for students to truly mature.

Third, schools and society should consider preparing and being ready to provide counseling and psychological therapy services for those with deviant behaviors that endanger themselves and others to create social safety circles for the development of today's young people.

Fourth , diversifying education forms to help young people form positive life values and stay away from deviant behaviors at many levels; especially, it is necessary to arouse emotions, humanistic spirit, and self-esteem so that each young person realizes the values to choose, lives to the fullest and is confident in that choice.

Finally, it is necessary to consider policy solutions and educational programs to help Vietnamese youth form positive life values and avoid deviant behaviors that go along with and keep pace with the constant changes of life. Avoid the situation where young people interact in the virtual world but do not master online games or are "abused" with technology products without self-awareness.

It is known that you have had emotional messages and shares with students about living a kind life?

Kindness in behavior today is not enough to demonstrate the value and quality of a person, but from a certain perspective, when people live kindly, they will have more opportunities and ways to control themselves. From there, they live according to their chosen values, gradually reducing unnecessary risks or opportunities for deviation. If we are not kind enough to ourselves as well as in caring for and developing ourselves every day, it will be very difficult to show kindness to life and live a happy life.

As mentioned, our sincere sharing based on positive interactions and empathy is the foundation for those interactions to be valuable. For me, the vibration of values and self-respect can make people more self-controlled, knowing how to choose values with consideration. Because that is how we are living a meaningful life, living authentically for precious values.

Thank you!
