The Traffic Police Department said on the evening of January 14 that after half a month of implementing Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, traffic order and safety have clearly changed, traffic accidents have decreased in all three criteria, and traffic has returned to order.
From January 1 to 14, traffic police nationwide detected and handled more than 174,600 cases of traffic safety and order violations; revoked 17,595 driving licenses and professional certificates; temporarily detained 955 cars and 49,649 motorbikes; and deducted nearly 12,700 points from driving licenses. Compared to the previous period, the number of fines decreased by nearly 22,800 cases (11.54%).
Violations of alcohol concentration occurred in over 36,000 cases; 2,888 cases of overloading, oversizing, and extending the body of the vehicle; over 37,300 cases of speeding; 339 cases of drivers on the road with drugs in their bodies; 3,279 cases of not obeying traffic light signals...
A representative of the Traffic Police Department assessed that Decree 168, issued with many acts with increased penalties, has had a profound impact on awareness and significantly raised the consciousness of traffic participants.
Authorities and forces tasked with ensuring traffic order and safety all determined that "the goal is not to increase the amount of fines collected for the State budget, but to resolutely raise awareness of road traffic law compliance among traffic participants."
The situation of drivers running red lights, driving on sidewalks, going the wrong way on one-way streets... has decreased significantly, especially in big cities.
Traffic participants have voluntarily obeyed traffic lights even when there is no traffic police force to check and control, gradually changing the awareness and sense of responsibility of each citizen when participating in traffic, forming a culture when participating in traffic, creating an image of civilized traffic and urban areas with international friends, and receiving the support of the people.
“Before, during and after the peak of Tet, the traffic order and safety situation nationwide, especially in large cities, is always complicated, but with the strict compliance of the people, having a clear path and order will reduce the risk of prolonged congestion,” informed a representative of the Traffic Police Department.
According to the Traffic Police Department, the traffic accident situation has also changed significantly, with traffic accidents decreasing in all three criteria compared to the same period and the previous period.
