Previously, from March 31 to April 1, in the waters bordering Vietnam and Thailand, naval fleets of the two countries coordinated to conduct joint patrols on 6 routes with a distance of more than 430 nautical miles.

The two navies practice hand flags during joint patrol.

During the patrol, the two sides performed the ASEAN Hello at sea procedure; exchanged information; practiced target announcements by officers on duty; practiced hand flags, lights, and whistle signals according to the International Law on Signals; conducted search and rescue drills and implemented the Code of Conduct for Unplanned Encounters at Sea of the Western Pacific Navies (CUES).

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cuong, Brigade Commander of Brigade 175 - commander of the Vietnamese Navy patrol ship squadron, said: Despite performing the mission in unfavorable weather conditions, the naval squadrons of the two countries overcame difficulties, coordinated to fully implement the contents of the Joint Patrol Regulations and established a communication channel between the Vietnam People's Navy and the Royal Thai Navy signed by the Commanders of the two countries' navies on June 14, 1999.

The commander of the Vietnamese Navy patrol ship squadron and officers and soldiers of Ship 263 bid farewell to the Royal Thai Navy patrol ship squadron after completing the joint patrol.

With careful preparation and close coordination, the 51st joint patrol was a great success. Thereby, it contributed to maintaining security and order in the waters bordering Vietnam and Thailand, creating favorable conditions for people of the two countries to do business at sea; at the same time, continuing to promote cooperation, enhancing understanding and mutual trust between the two navies.

After completing the joint patrol, Ship 421 and the working delegation of Region 1 of the Royal Thai Navy set off to visit and exchange with Region 5 of the Vietnam People's Navy.
