Hope to extend Han Ngoc Hai's university dream

BPO - During the final days of high school, while friends are busy preparing for graduation exams and shaping their future paths, Han Ngoc Hai, class 12A13, Loc Ninh High School, is facing the risk of having to put aside his university dream because of his family's difficult circumstances.

More than 15 years after leaving Nghe An to start a business in Binh Phuoc, with no relatives, no property, no land..., Hai's family had to rely on a prefabricated corrugated iron house on the land of the border guards in Thanh Bien border hamlet, Loc Thanh commune, Loc Ninh district.

Life became even more difficult when his father, Mr. Han Van Son (1971), suffered from severe diabetes, poor health, and completely lost his ability to work since the beginning of 2025. His mother, Mrs. Tran Thi Thanh (1971), became the main breadwinner, but her job was only seasonal work, earning only 3-4 million/month. This poor mother also suffered from many diseases such as spinal degeneration and herniated disc. Hai has a younger brother in 10th grade, who is also trying every day to pursue education in conditions of extreme poverty.

Although his house is more than 20km from school, Han Ngoc Hai has never been late or absent from school. Without the opportunity to attend extra classes, he studies hard and understands his lessons right in class.

Hai's mother said: "My husband and I are both illiterate, so we always wanted our child to study well. Unfortunately, illness and poverty kept haunting us, and we didn't even have enough food to eat every day, so we could only send our child to school as long as we could."

Understanding the family's situation, since grade 3, Hai had to follow his mother to weed, collect cashews for hire... to save every penny. The house is more than 20km from school, so at noon, both Hai and his brother had to eat charity meals from the school. Clothes, school supplies... had to be asked for from seniors. "I really admire Hai's determination. He always maintains a strong spirit of learning, is a good student, and has achieved good academic results for many years in a row" - Ms. Tran My Hue, Vice Principal of Loc Ninh High School said.

When at home, Hai had to work hard to earn a living. He saved up his tuition fees from his excellent student awards, his scholarship for overcoming difficulties, and his wages from his work… all during his high school years.

With his constant efforts, Hai soon nurtured his dream of entering the University of Technical Education, a major that is both highly applicable and can help him stabilize his life and support his family. However, that dream is gradually becoming out of reach, as the cost of university is beyond his family's means. The fear of unfinished studies always surrounds the poor student. "If I have to put my studies on hold, give up my dream... I will feel very sad. My future may only be days of working for hire, unable to stabilize my life" - Hai said, but his eyes contained a sadness that could not be expressed in words.

The program "Wings of Dreams" (BPTV) earnestly calls on philanthropists and social organizations to join hands to give Han Ngoc Hai a meaningful scholarship. It is not only material support, but also faith, motivation, and a ray of hope for a poor but studious student on the path to conquering knowledge.

The "Wings of Dreams" scholarship award ceremony (session 117) is expected to take place at 8:30 a.m. on April 16, 2025, at Loc Ninh High School. The program is organized by BPTV in coordination with VNPT and the Provincial Scholarship Fund.
