Hai Phong attracts an additional 400 million USD of Korean investment capital

At the Hai Phong - Korea Investment Promotion Conference, Hai Phong City awarded investment certificates to 8 projects (nearly 400 million USD); witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Sao Do Group and Samsung Engineering Vietnam Co., Ltd.

Continuing the working trip to Korea, this morning (April 24), at the headquarters of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Hai Phong City, together with the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea and KCCI, organized the Hai Phong - Korea Investment Promotion Conference 2024.

This is the second time that Hai Phong City and KCCI have organized an investment promotion conference, which is also the occasion to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Vietnam and Korea establishing diplomatic relations and the second year that Vietnam and Korea have upgraded their relationship to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Tien Chau, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, said that in the past 3 years, especially after the promotion conference held at the KCCI headquarters in 2022, foreign direct investment from Korea into the City has increased sharply. The City has attracted more than 20 investment projects from Korea with a capital of more than 3 billion USD along with the presence of many leading Korean and international investors such as: SK, Samsung, Posco... Up to now, there are more than 100 investment projects from Korea in the City with a total capital of 12 billion USD, accounting for 40% of the total FDI capital in the City and 14% of the total Korean FDI capital in Vietnam. The above results are clear evidence that Hai Phong City is a very successful destination for investors, especially Korean investors.

Through this conference, Hai Phong City hopes that the information provided to Korean enterprises at the conference will help investors have a positive and fresh perspective on the city's investment environment. From there, investors will make decisions on investment strategies, creating a premise for research and investment implementation activities in the city, especially in the fields of processing, manufacturing, chip production and semiconductors.

In order for Hai Phong City to continue to be an attractive destination for investors, the City always welcomes and commits to providing the best incentives and is ready to prepare all favorable conditions in the investment environment such as: Focusing on investing in upgrading transport infrastructure, building highways, railways, and waterways directly connecting to industrial parks; urgently putting ports No. 3-4-5-6 in Lach Huyen port cluster into operation in 2025. Prioritizing the construction and investment of renewable energy projects (solar power, hydrogen energy, especially the wind power project in Bach Long Vy), while focusing on upgrading the supply system.

Connect with universities and businesses to train high-quality human resources and approve labor training support projects, ensuring high-quality labor resources for investors.

Develop social housing projects and issue a policy framework to support workers in purchasing social housing, as well as invest in social security projects, implement healthcare and vocational training projects to attract and retain workers, and create maximum conditions for businesses to meet labor needs.

In addition, Hai Phong City will also promote the development of high-quality social facilities such as golf courses, hospitals, hotels, schools, etc. to serve the needs of experts, investors and families when coming to the City. In particular, Hai Phong City is actively implementing the construction of a new economic zone in the South of the city with the orientation of a green, ecological economic zone, closely following international trends on ESG: Environment - Society - Governance with special preferential policies, including a free trade zone.

At the Conference, representatives of Hai Phong City leaders awarded Investment Registration Certificates for newly granted projects and capital increase adjustments to investors: Project of INNOX ECOM Co., Ltd. (newly granted 10 million USD) in Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park; Project of manufacturing, processing, assembling, motherboards (Main PCB), PCB display screens of Seyoung Vietnam Co., Ltd. newly granted 35 million USD at DEEP C IIA Industrial Park; Project of DH Lightning Vina Co., Ltd. (increased capital of 55.8 million USD) at DEEP C Industrial Park; HKT Electronics Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd. (increased capital of 73.5 million USD) at Trang Due Industrial Park; Kyungnam Chemical Vina Co., Ltd. (increased capital of 72 million USD) at Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park; Youngjin E&C Vina Co., Ltd. (increased capital of 51 million USD), Hanmiflexible Vina Co., Ltd. (increased capital of 10 million USD) all at Trang Due Industrial Park; Hansung PTC Vina Co., Ltd. (increased capital of 60 million USD) at Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park.

The conference also witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation, establishment, expansion and enhancement of the cooperative relationship between Sao Do Group and Samsung Engineering Vietnam Co., Ltd.; supporting research, implementation, deployment and investment in developing projects in Vietnam that the Parties agree to have the need to develop and implement.

Previously, during the working session with KCCI, Mr. Le Tien Chau sincerely thanked KCCI for its attention and coordination in the past time; for supporting Hai Phong City to successfully organize investment promotion activities in Korea in August 2022. The city hopes to continue to receive further support from KCCI in the future; to develop and deepen the cooperative relationship between Hai Phong City and KCCI.

In addition, Hai Phong City hopes that KCCI will continue to be a bridge to call on KCCI members to pay attention to research, new investment and expansion of investment scale in the City; especially in the fields of: High-tech electronics, semiconductor technology, chip manufacturing, biotechnology, renewable energy (wind power, solar power), automobile manufacturing, smart urban development. At the same time, it is recommended that KCCI call on investors and large, reputable corporations from Korea to invest, build, develop R&D research and development facilities, innovation, and technology transfer in Hai Phong City.
