Hanoi information about the 3rd exam subject for grade 10

Representative of Hanoi Department of Education and Training informs about the third exam in the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools in the 2025-2026 school year.

According to a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in addition to the two compulsory subjects of Math and Literature, a third subject for grade 10 is expected to be announced at the end of March.

The Department of Education and Training recommends that schools and students proactively focus on reviewing knowledge of subjects according to the format structure and sample questions for the subjects: Math; Literature, English, History and Geography, Natural Sciences, Information Technology, Civic Education announced by the Department at the end of 2024. The representative of the Department of Education and Training also affirmed that this is the basis for building a question bank and creating 10th grade exam questions according to the new general education program.

The Department's leaders also added that secondary schools should direct professional teams to research and apply exam format structures suitable for each subject so that 9th grade students can get acquainted; strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject program...

On January 8, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the regulations for the entrance exam to grade 10 of high school, emphasizing that the exam will include Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined exam).

The third subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, including: Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, and Information Technology. However, provinces and cities cannot choose a subject for more than three consecutive years.

The time for the Literature test is 120 minutes, Math 90, the third subject 60 or 90 minutes, the combined test 90 or 120 minutes.

The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that provinces and cities can announce the third exam subject after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year, in order to achieve the goal of comprehensive education and avoid rote learning and biased learning.

As of February 6, at least 20 provinces and cities have announced or planned a third subject. Except for Vinh Phuc, all provinces have chosen foreign languages or English.
