Two mistakes by goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan caused Hanoi to lose 0-2 to Thanh Hoa in round 9 of V-League 2023-2024.
In the 48th minute, Rimario dribbled the ball to counterattack on the left wing, then turned inside to twist Do Duy Manh's flank. The Thanh Hoa striker fired a weak shot that sent the ball into the lower right corner, but Quan Van Chuan's slow reflexes led to the first goal.
The second mistake of the goalkeeper born in 2001 came in the 90th minute when Thanh Hoa was awarded a free kick on the left wing, about 20 meters from the goal. Van Chuan continued to make slow judgments when Luiz Antonio cunningly curled the ball low into the near corner to double the gap.
This is the first time Hanoi has lost to Thanh Hoa in the V-League since the 1-4 defeat in 2019. During that time, the capital team won four and drew two. This is also the second consecutive match that Hanoi FC has lost 0-2 in the 2023-2024 V-League, after losing to HAGL in round 8. New Japanese coach Iwamasa Daiki could not have a smooth debut with the capital team.

The match at Thanh Hoa Stadium on the evening of February 18 took place with a balanced situation. Thanh Hoa lost goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Diep and center back Gustavo Santos due to injury, while Hanoi FC also did not have Joel Tagueu for the same reason, in addition to the suspended Le Van Xuan. Players from both sides tried their best but the bad field made the ball go poorly, affecting short-ball coordination.
Hanoi created the first clear scoring opportunity in the 18th minute. From the right wing, Hai Long passed the ball to Denilson Pereira, who passed it conveniently to the left wing. Vu Dinh Hai rushed forward and fired a powerful left-footed shot from the 16m50 line, hitting the crossbar. Ten minutes later, the home team responded with a close-range shot from Doan Ngoc Tan that hit the right edge of the net.
Hanoi had another dangerous opportunity when Do Hung Dung crossed the goal but his teammates could not get in in the 36th minute. Two minutes later, Luiz Antonio dribbled into the penalty area and curled the ball with his left foot but was blocked by Van Chuan.
The deadlock was broken in the second half after mistakes by the Hanoi FC goalkeeper. Coach Iwamasa Daiki used all his substitutions in the hope of changing things but to no avail.
The fifth loss since the start of the tournament left Hanoi in 10th place with 10 points, equal to Quang Nam but with a worse goal difference (-4 compared to -1). Meanwhile, Thanh Hoa has 18 points to rank second, four points behind the top team Nam Dinh.
