According to confirmation from head coach Chu Đình Nghiêm, goalkeeper Nguyễn Đình Triệu suffered from food poisoning during preparations for the Hải Phòng vs. Hà Nội match in Round 18 of the V-League 2024-2025.

"Dinh Trieu suffered from food poisoning the night before and is currently undergoing intestinal checks; the coaching staff is monitoring him," coach Chu Dinh Nghiem shared after the 0-0 draw against Hanoi on April 13th at Lach Tray Stadium.

Unable to register Dinh Trieu, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem gave Nguyen Van Toan the starting goalkeeper opportunity, and the goalkeeper repaid the coaching staff's trust by playing his role well, helping Hai Phong secure a point against the title contenders from the capital. "Van Toan played well, despite not having played for a long time," said Nghiem.

The captain of Hai Phong FC doesn't know when Dinh Trieu will return. Given his recent history of intestinal problems, he may miss the Round 19 match against Binh Dinh at home on April 18th and the Round 20 match against Hoang Anh Gia Lai on April 27th.

This is the second time Dinh Trieu has been sidelined by injury since the 2024 ASEAN Cup. After a collision in the final match, Trieu suffered a bruised intestine, requiring hospitalization for minor surgery and treatment, causing him to miss several V-League matches after the Lunar New Year. When called up to the national team during the FIFA Days in March, Dinh Trieu also had to miss training or train separately due to back pain.

Dinh Trieu, born in 1991 in Thai Binh province, is currently the number one goalkeeper for Hai Phong FC and the Vietnamese national team. He has one of the most unique backgrounds in the V-League, having previously quit football to work as a security guard and pursue his education. He only made his professional debut for Binh Phuoc at the age of 29 in 2020.

Dinh Trieu's career turning point came in 2022, when coach Chu Dinh Nghiem took over Hai Phong FC and brought Trieu into the spotlight. After two consecutive seasons competing for the championship with Hai Phong, Dinh Trieu caught the eye of coach Philippe Troussier and was called up as a reserve player for the Vietnamese national team.

When the national team transitioned to coach Kim Sang Sik, Dinh Trieu rose to become the number one goalkeeper, starting for most of the journey to winning the ASEAN Cup 2024.

Another Vietnamese player who suffered an injury in round 18 was center-back Nguyen Thanh Binh (The Cong - Viettel). The player, born in 2000, suffered a big toe injury and had to leave the field in the 7th minute of the match against Ha Tinh on April 11th.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Thanh Binh said that he wasn't in too much pain and there was no damage to the bones or joints of his toes, so he didn't need to have any X-rays; he just needed rest and rehabilitation exercises.
