Hanoi: Recognizing 14 traditional craft villages

On the morning of April 15, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment held a conference to announce and award decisions to recognize the titles of craft villages, traditional craft villages and traditional occupations; and certify OCOP products at the city level in 2024.

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, the city currently has 1,350 craft villages, of which 337 craft villages and traditional craft villages have been recognized. Performing the function of State management of rural industries, in 2024, the Department advised the Hanoi People's Committee to organize a meeting of the Appraisal Council to consider and recognize titles for 14 craft villages.

Among these, there are 4 traditional craft villages: Quang Ba lotus tea craft village (Tay Ho district); Co Chat embroidery craft village (Thuong Tin district); Gie Ha leather shoe craft village (Phu Xuyen district); Gie Thuong leather shoe craft village (Phu Xuyen district).

Three craft villages were recognized as Hanoi craft villages on this occasion: Chung Chan sewing village (Phu Xuyen district); Hat Mon carpentry village (Phuc Tho district); Van An carpentry village (Son Tay town).

The Organizing Committee awarded the decision to recognize 5-star potential products to the subjects.

Besides, there are 7 traditional occupations. Specifically: Com village production (Cau Giay district); Lotus tea embalming craft of Quang An (Tay Ho district); Dinh Cong goldsmith and silversmith craft (Hoang Mai district); Mai Dong apricot tofu craft (Hoang Mai district); Ngu Xa bronze casting craft (Ba Dinh district); Ba Duong Noi village kite making craft (Dan Phuong district); Com products production craft of Hang Than street (Ba Dinh district).

Also at the conference, Hanoi City also awarded recognition decisions to 108 products of 17 districts certified by the City People's Committee as achieving 4 stars, with potential for 5 stars in 2024.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Dinh Hoa affirmed: the recognition of craft villages and traditional craft villages is a recognition of the efforts of artisans, authorities and local people in preserving and promoting traditional crafts.

According to the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment: in the coming time, the unit will continue to focus on effectively implementing Decision No. 282/QD-UBND of the City People's Committee on approving the "Overall project for developing craft villages in Hanoi for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050"; advising the City in coordinating with the World Craft Council to approve at least 2 more craft villages of Hanoi to become members of the network of creative craft cities worldwide in 2025.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment also requested the People's Committees at district and commune levels to continue to focus on promoting the development of craft villages, traditional occupations, and traditional craft villages to maintain and honor the association with the development of OCOP products to form craft village tourism destinations and experiential tourism.

For craft villages, OCOP subjects continue to develop production and business effectively in the direction of developing sustainable products in the chain, investing in upgrading and expanding scale, improving packaging and design, product quality is increasingly sophisticated, attracting consumers; Applying technology, promoting diverse promotion on digital platforms, creating more jobs, increasing income for workers.
