Accordingly, from now until 2030, Phu Quoc airport will continue to be an international airport reaching the 4E airport level (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO), meeting the capacity of about 10 million passengers/year and 25,000 tons of cargo/year.
The port can handle B747, B787, A350 aircraft and is equivalent to CATI standard landing approach for runway 10; CAT II standard for runway 28. Vision to 2050, this port will reach a capacity of 18 million passengers per year and 50,000 tons of cargo per year.
Regarding the passenger terminal, from now until 2030, the existing T1 terminal with a capacity of about 4 million passengers per year will be maintained, serving domestic and international operations. At the same time, a new T2 passenger terminal will be planned to the east of the existing T1 passenger terminal, with a capacity of about 6 million passengers per year and land reserves to be able to expand this passenger terminal when needed.
The VIP guesthouse is planned to be combined with general aviation operations in the southwest area of the port. This terminal will be used to serve the APEC 2027 Summit Week held in Phu Quoc.
Vision to 2050, the airport will keep terminal T1, expand passenger terminal T2 to ensure the operating capacity increases from 6 million passengers per year to about 14 million passengers per year.
From now until 2030, Phu Quoc airport is also planned to expand the existing cargo terminal with a land area of about 10,000 m2, ensuring a capacity of 25,000 tons of cargo per year. Vision to 2050, Phu Quoc airport cargo terminal continues to be expanded to ensure a capacity of 50,000 tons of cargo per year.
Regarding the runway, from now until 2030, the airport must extend the existing runway from 3,000m to 3,300m and maintain the width of 45m. At the same time, the second runway is planned to be about 360m north of the existing runway, with a length of 3,300m and a width of 45m when needed. With a vision to 2050, Phu Quoc airport will maintain the runway configuration that was planned in the previous phase.
This airport is also arranged with 30 more aircraft parking positions for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2050, the number of aircraft parking positions will increase to 45.
Regarding land use needs, Phu Quoc airport is expected to have an area of over 1,000 hectares. Thus, the locality needs to arrange an additional 198 hectares.
