A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the exam format structure is an important basis for building a question bank and creating exam questions for the Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program.
Based on the exam format structure of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training recommends that education and training departments strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject; encourage schools to build digital libraries of test questions.
The 2025-2026 school year is the first year that the 10th grade entrance exam will be conducted according to the 2018 General Education Program.
In order to help 9th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year as well as school staff and teachers have specific directions to organize effective teaching, learning, and review, and prepare well for the 10th grade entrance exam in the 2025-2026 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has announced the format structure and sample questions for this exam earlier than every year.
According to the announcement, the Literature and Math tests are in essay format, with a duration of 120 minutes. The remaining subjects are multiple choice with 60 minutes.
In particular, the Literature subject still has two parts: Reading and Writing, worth 4 and 6 points respectively. The Math illustration test has 5 lessons, including thinking and reasoning (three points), problem solving (4.5) and modeling (2.5).
For multiple choice subjects, the number of questions ranges from 22 to 40. The scores are not divided equally for each question, similar to the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training with the high school graduation exam next year.
The Department said that questions at the recognition level will account for 20%, and at the comprehension and application levels will account for 40%. For integrated subjects and Information Technology, this ratio is divided according to question types. Schools need to research and apply this structure in teaching and reviewing so that students can get used to new test formats such as true/false and short answers.
Particularly for Literature, teachers avoid using textbook materials when testing, in order to overcome the problem of memorization.
Every year, Hanoi has about 110,000 students registering for the 10th grade exam. In the past 6 years, the exam has been held 4 times with three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language; in 2019 and 2021, a fourth subject, History, was added.
