Ha Nam: Meeting to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the militia tradition

Over the 90 years of construction, fighting and growing up, under the leadership of the Party, the militia and self-defense forces and the people of Ha Nam have united to overcome all sacrifices and hardships, fought tenaciously, achieved many feats, and beautified the revolutionary tradition of the homeland and the tradition of the province's armed forces.

During the resistance war against the French colonialists, the provincial militia and self-defense force was truly the core force fighting the enemy with the entire people. During the American war of destruction in the North, the Ha Nam militia and self-defense force was not only the core and shock force in combat service, but also a powerful source of supplement for the main force and local troops. The provincial militia and self-defense force organized 65 combat clusters, 398 aircraft hunting groups, and 608 militia groups that both produced and fought. In the summary of the emulation movement of the militia and self-defense force in 1965, 11 units were recognized by the Provincial Team as winning units.

Particularly outstanding were the Phu Van Commune Women's Air Defense Militia Platoon; Lam Ha Commune Militia Company (now Lam Ha Ward) which coordinated day and night with the local army's air defense force and the main force to create a dense air defense fire network, protecting the homeland's airspace, maintaining the vital traffic route, and supporting the large frontline in the South. During the period from 1965 to 1972, the Ha Nam militia and self-defense force participated in combat and shot down 13 American planes, capturing many pilots, contributing with the people and soldiers of the whole country to defeat the American invaders, completely liberating the South, and reunifying the country.

In the process of building and defending the Fatherland, the provincial militia and self-defense force has actively worked in production, built the homeland, and was ready to support the frontline to win the two border wars in the North and Southwest, firmly protecting the Fatherland's border.

Entering a new revolutionary stage, especially since Ha Nam province was re-established in 1997. The militia and self-defense force has always been the core force participating in maintaining political security, social order and safety in the area; building localities and units to develop, be rich in economy, strong in national defense and security, take the lead in preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, epidemics, searching and rescuing...

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Xuan Duong said: reviewing the tradition and glorious feats in building, fighting and growing up of the militia and self-defense force, contributing to arousing in the officers and soldiers of the armed forces and the people the pride and self-respect of the nation, enhancing patriotism, love for socialism, indomitable will, overcoming all difficulties and challenges, striving to build a strong national defense, building a "revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern" armed force; building a strong and widespread militia and self-defense force, improving the overall quality and combat readiness, meeting the requirements of tasks in the new period, actively contributing to the cause of building and firmly protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam, building Ha Nam province increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized.

On this occasion, 58 collectives and individuals were commended by the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Military Command.
