Humboldt’s highlight is the construction of the first direct submarine fiber optic cable between South America and the Asia-Pacific, stretching 14,800 km under the Pacific Ocean, connecting the coasts of Australia and Chile. By joining Humboldt, Chile will become a gateway for data from the Asia-Pacific region to South America. The name Humboldt was chosen through a social media contest in Chile, honoring German explorer Alexander von Humboldt, who traveled across the American continent in the early 19th century.
