Preserving cultural sites and urban characteristics

Localities across the country are currently focusing on and resolutely implementing the policies and conclusions of the Politburo and the Secretariat on not organizing at the district level, and developing plans to establish grassroots administrative units on the basis of merging existing wards, communes, and towns. The challenge that arises is that city-level urban areas, provincial towns, and cities considered core, central, and "locomotive" urban areas with long-standing place names and histories are being separated, merged, and even erased.

Like Da Lat City ( Lam Dong ), according to the plan after the arrangement and merger, there will be only one ward named Da Lat, the remaining wards will have to have other names. This not only affects the thoughts and feelings of a part of the people but also affects other issues such as tourism, vegetable and flower brands; international cooperation... Like Da Lat, many other urban locations in the country have shaped the world map of tourism, culture, art, revolutionary history, becoming guides, attractions, and beliefs such as: Sa Pa, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Phu Quoc...

To avoid the situation of "mechanism", causing the risk of "disruption" in culture and history, affecting the overall, harmonious and sustainable development of cities and localities when building plans for arrangement, merger and naming new administrative units, it is necessary to carefully evaluate and consult the people and scientists. Because administrative place names are not only land and boundaries but also resources, soft power, containing traditional values, development space and "brand"... Choosing appropriate names will help inherit traditions and achievements, affirm the effectiveness and correctness of the revolution to streamline the apparatus, creating motivation and resources for the country to enter a new era.
