Precious metals and markets in general have been volatile in recent days, rising higher on optimism that US President Donald Trump’s tariffs would be low and targeted, before collapsing after the announcement on the afternoon of April 2 that a global trade war had begun.
Adrian Day, chairman of Adrian Day Asset Management, said he sees gold prices trending lower in the near term, but the long-term bullish trend remains intact. “There is likely to be further downside, possibly to $3,000 an ounce in the next few days, but any decline will be short and shallow. The dynamics of the past two years for gold have not disappeared, and have become even more urgent. Despite the big move this year, gold remains under-owned, especially in North America. So, gold is down next week but up sharply for the rest of the year,” said Adrian Day.
