As a teacher with more than 20 years in the industry, teacher Tran Manh Tung - Math teacher (Hanoi) has three expectations for educational innovation in 2025.

"I have many expectations and wishes that education needs to get involved and innovate drastically to cherish and take advantage of the changes of the country and the world," Mr. Tung emphasized.

Expectations for a comprehensive assessment after 4 years of implementing the 2018 General Education Program

The 2018 general education program ends its first cycle this year for 3 levels of education.

After 4 years of implementation, at the end of this school year, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to have a comprehensive, objective and scientific summary of the first phase of implementing the 2018 General Education Program to set goals and innovative solutions that are more in-depth, sustainable and effective for the next phase.

First, comprehensively evaluate the curriculum and textbooks. The curriculum is the law, the guideline for teaching and learning activities, and needs to be scientifically and multi-dimensionally evaluated to consider its suitability, necessity and timeliness. The story of textbooks is also controversial, with many advantages and disadvantages.

Second, evaluate the actual effectiveness of new teaching methods. In recent times, we have had many innovations in teaching methods, focusing on forming and developing students' capacity. This is a positive and progressive point, but a comprehensive evaluation is needed to have a complete picture, advantages, disadvantages and achieved results...

Third, evaluate student learning outcomes. There needs to be a comparison of student learning outcomes between the old and new programs. Evaluate student progress in active learning, developing thinking skills, creativity, self-study and international integration. It is necessary to consider the level of differentiation of students, especially weak and good groups.

Fourth, evaluate the teaching staff. There needs to be a full assessment of the teachers' response to the new program, and the effectiveness of teacher training and development, in order to find solutions for improvement in the following school years.

In my opinion, this is a huge and difficult task, requiring the education sector to spend a lot of time, effort and resources to evaluate and summarize in a quality and reliable manner.

Expectations for finalizing exam and admission plans

At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training made many changes in exams and admissions such as admissions to grade 6, entrance exams to grade 10, high school graduation exams, etc. The Ministry also intends to intervene to make university admissions more substantial and effective.

Exams in Vietnam are still difficult and stressful, and the main reason is that there are many changes in a short period of time, while studying and taking exams affect most families.

I hope that at the end of the 2024-2025 school year, after implementing the exams according to the newly issued regulations, the Ministry of Education and Training will have an assessment and draw experience to finalize the exam and enrollment plan for the following years and maintain stability for at least 5 years.

Expectation of the Law on Teachers to be passed

In the first half of 2025, the draft Law on Teachers will be submitted to the 2nd 15th National Assembly at the 9th Session. The draft proposes many important policies to enhance the status and protect the rights of teachers such as: Identification and standards of teachers; policies on recruitment, training and honoring teachers; treatment and protection of teachers.

In particular, increasing teachers' salaries has been pursued by many generations of education ministers and is also the wish of more than 1.6 million teachers today. If the Law on Teachers is passed, this will become a reality because according to the draft, teachers' salaries are ranked highest in the administrative career salary scale system and there are additional allowances depending on the nature of the job and the region.

We all know that investing in education is investing in development. Therefore, I hope that teachers can live on their salaries first so that they can feel secure and dedicated to their teaching work.

There are still many expectations and wishes for the education sector. However, if we do well the above 3 things, I believe that education will turn a new page, more positive, practical and effective.
