(HNMO) - On the competition day of May 16, the final competition day of the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation competed in many sports including arnis, dance sports, fencing, men's football, judo, sepak takraw, table tennis, weightlifting, wrestling, traditional boat, and kick boxing. Vietnamese athletes in many sports still competed with determination, bringing home 11 more gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.

The match for the bronze medal in men's football between the U22 Vietnam team and the U22 Myanmar team impressed fans. In this match, the U22 Vietnam team defeated Myanmar with a score of 3-1, winning the bronze medal in men's football at the 32nd SEA Games.

The U22 Vietnam players played well while their opponents seemed to have not recovered physically and mentally. The U22 Myanmar players played with a lack of determination and made many mistakes. Right in the 9th minute, the U22 Vietnam players launched an attack from home and suddenly accelerated, receiving the ball in a favorable position, Ho Van Cuong shot into the U22 Myanmar net, opening the score for U22 Vietnam.

In the following minutes, U22 Vietnam controlled the match at a slow pace. In the 35th minute, from a pass from Le Van Do, Ho Van Cuong once again decisively shot into the near corner, making the U22 Myanmar net, raising the score to 2-0 for the red team.

In the second half, the game did not change, U22 Vietnam still maintained a slow pace of play, waiting for a chance to suddenly accelerate and score a third goal. In the 57th minute, from a pass from Quoc Viet, Khuat Van Khang finished with one touch to raise the score to 3-0 for U22 Vietnam. In the final minutes of the match, taking advantage of a chaotic situation, U22 Myanmar scored an honorable goal in the 89th minute. U22 Vietnam won 3-1 and won the Bronze Medal in men's football at the 32nd SEA Games.

In weightlifting, young athlete Nguyen Quoc Toan excellently won the Gold Medal, breaking the SEA Games record. In the final of the 89kg weightlifting event, athlete Nguyen Quoc Toan successfully performed the weights of 155 kg in snatch - 190 kg in clean and jerk, 345 kg in total lift. The SEA Games record in this weight category is 150 kg in snatch - 187 kg in clean and jerk - 337 kg in total lift. In the end, by breaking all 3 records, athlete Nguyen Quoc Toan excellently won the 32nd SEA Games Gold Medal.

In the men's over 89 kg weight class, athlete Tran Dinh Thang won the dramatic Gold Medal with a total lift of 359 kg (150 kg snatch, 209 kg clean and jerk), surpassing the Thai athlete by exactly 1 kg (358 kg total). In the women's over 71 kg weight class, athlete Pha Si Ro achieved a total lift of 246 kg (106 kg snatch, 140 kg clean and jerk) and won the Bronze Medal. Pha Si Ro is of Cham ethnicity.

Wrestling had a successful day of competition when the athletes brought home 4 gold medals. On the final day of competition, wrestling competed in 6 men's freestyle weight categories. As a result, 4 athletes won gold medals including: Nguyen Xuan Dinh (65kg), Ngo The Sao (70kg), Can Tat Du (74kg) and Ngo Van Lam (92kg). The above matches took place very quickly with overwhelming victories belonging to the Vietnamese wrestlers.

In the fencing event, in the final of the men's team sabre event, athletes Cao Minh Duyet, Pham Quoc Tai, Nguyen Van Hai, Nguyen Minh Quang won a dramatic victory over the Singapore team 45-37, winning the gold medal. This is the first time Vietnam has won a SEA Games gold medal in fencing. In the women's team sabre event, the Vietnamese girls won the bronze medal.

In judo, mixed team event, Vietnamese athletes won a dramatic victory over Thailand, winning the Gold Medal.

Contributing to this competition day, the athletes also brought home gold medals in the following sports: Nguyen Xuan Phuong (men's under 60 kg category, kickboxing); Team event 800m mixed traditional rowing; Tran Huynh Nhu (sport dance event B Girls).

Meanwhile, in table tennis, Nguyen Anh Tu could not defeat Singaporean Yong Izaac Quek in the men's singles final. The Hanoi player accepted the SEA Games runner-up position, winning the silver medal. He could not defend the men's singles gold medal for Vietnamese table tennis that Nguyen Duc Tuan won at the previous SEA Games. In the women's singles event, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh lost to Suthasini (Thailand) 1-4 in the women's singles semi-final, receiving the bronze medal.

As of 10pm on May 16, on the medal tally, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation firmly held the top spot with 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals, and 114 bronze medals; surpassing the maximum target of winning 120 gold medals set before the 32nd SEA Games.

Following is the Thai Sports Delegation with 108 gold medals, 95 silver medals, 108 bronze medals; third is the Indonesian Sports Delegation with 85 gold medals, 81 silver medals, 109 bronze medals. The host country Cambodia ranked fourth with 81 gold medals, 74 silver medals, 106 bronze medals.
