Tariff tensions heat up gold prices

Thus, in just the past three days, the world gold price has increased to 65 USD/ounce, equivalent to 2 million VND/tael.

With this all-time high, converted according to the listed exchange rate at the bank, the world gold price is equivalent to 95.83 million VND/tael.

Gold prices surged to nearly $3,100 an ounce on rising demand for safe-haven assets amid rising tariff tensions.

The Trump administration’s series of tariff announcements 2.0 has left investors highly uncertain in recent weeks, putting downward pressure on stock prices and pushing gold prices up steadily.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on “all cars not made in the United States” — a move that sent auto stocks into a tailspin and raised the risk of a recession. Markets are now waiting for April 2, when Trump is expected to announce the reciprocal tariffs.

Mr Trump's policies are expected to lead to higher inflation in the US, while economic growth could decline, leading to stagflation - an environment that is beneficial for gold prices.

Domestic gold prices continuously set records

This week, the world gold price increased by 1.7%, marking the fourth consecutive week of increase and the 12th week of increase in the past 13 weeks. Since the beginning of the year, the gold price has set a record 16 times and increased by about 17%.

Domestically, gold prices also fluctuate wildly following the rise and fall of world gold prices.

The price of 9999 gold rings and SJC gold bars at SJC Company, after increasing by 1.7 million VND/tael yesterday, has now increased by 400,000 VND/tael, to 100.7 million VND/tael. The buying price has increased by 200,000 VND/tael, to 98.4 million VND/tael.

At PNJ Company, the selling price of gold rings and gold bars both jumped to 100.7 million VND/tael, buying price was 98.4 million VND/tael, an increase of 200,000 VND/tael in selling price.

At Bao Tin Minh Chau Company, the price of 9999 gold rings has reached 100.9 million VND/tael, an increase of 300,000 VND/tael compared to yesterday, while the buying price only increased by 100,000 VND/tael.

Compared to the converted world gold price, the domestic gold price is about 4.87 million VND/tael higher.
