Specifically, at the end of the trading week from December 16 to December 22, the price of SJC gold bars was listed by large enterprises at 81.8-83.8 million VND/tael (buy - sell). The price of gold bars "started" this week at 82.6-85.1 million VND/tael (buy - sell). Thus, after a week of trading, the buying price "evaporated" 800,000 VND while the selling price decreased 1.3 million VND.
At the end of this week, the price of plain round gold rings was listed at 81.8-83.6 million VND/tael (buy - sell). The gold ring item also decreased by 800,000 VND each way after a week.
Domestic gold prices fell amid strong fluctuations in global prices. At the beginning of the week, global gold prices increased due to geopolitical concerns and a weakening USD, but reversed and plummeted in the following two trading sessions.
The price of SJC gold was listed by Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) at 81.8 million VND/tael for buying and 83.8 million VND/tael for selling, unchanged in both buying and selling compared to the previous trading session. The difference between the buying and selling prices is 2.0 million VND.
The price of 9999 gold today is listed by DOJI at 82.4 million VND/tael for buying and 84.4 million VND/tael for selling, unchanged in both buying and selling directions compared to the previous session. The difference between the buying price and selling price is 2.0 million VND.
Bao Tin Minh Chau gold price is traded by businesses at 82.4 million VND/tael for buying and 84.4 million VND/tael for selling, an increase of 400,000 VND/tael for buying and an increase of 600,000 VND/tael for selling compared to the closing price at the end of last week.
Thus, the domestic gold price today, December 23, increased sharply in both buying and selling directions compared to the closing price of last weekend at some major gold brands.

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was 2,621.59 USD/ounce. Today's gold price is unchanged compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (25,780 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 81.4 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 2.4 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Last week, domestic gold prices made strong adjustments, mainly downward, in line with the trend of world gold prices. SJC gold bar prices at major brands such as DOJI and Bao Tin Minh Chau decreased by 1.9 million VND/tael compared to last week. Gold ring prices at these two units also decreased by 1.03 million VND/tael.
However, with this sharp decline, gold bar holders suffered significant losses last week. When buying, they had to pay the high selling price of the business, while when selling, they received a lower purchase price, plus the price difference. Calculations show that investors could lose from 3.7 to 4.5 million VND/tael this week alone.
While the price of gold bars has decreased the buying and selling margin, the price of gold rings has had the opposite development. The difference between buying and selling prices has widened, mainly due to the sharp decrease in buying prices. Currently, the common difference of gold rings is from 1.5 to 1.8 million VND/tael.
Commenting on the gold price in 2025, the World Gold Council (WGC) said that if the market situation remains the same as it is now, the gold price in 2025 will increase more slowly than this year. In addition, if the wave of interest rate cuts is reversed, the precious metal will face many challenges.
Central bank buying and demand for safe havens have increased over the past few years, driven by global economic and political turmoil. Concerns about European sovereign debt, along with instability in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and elsewhere, have continued to push prices higher.
"Overall, the current situation is prompting investors to seek safe havens, such as gold, to hedge against risk," the WGC said.
In the medium and long term, many experts predict that gold prices will reach $3,000/ounce next year, but this increase is not expected to take place until the second half of 2025. At the same time, according to analysts, the price increase target for next year will be 13% instead of the strong increase of nearly 30% this year.
Multinational investment bank Goldman Sachs believes that gold demand will continue to increase as central banks continue to buy gold as a way to diversify their reserves, especially as the Chinese central bank increases its gold reserves, which will push the price of this precious metal to $3,000/ounce by the end of 2025.
