The market for offerings for the full moon of January in Ha Tinh is bustling, the number of buyers has increased sharply compared to normal days, and the prices of many items have also "cooled down" compared to the Lunar New Year.
The full moon of January is an important holiday for Vietnamese people in general and Ha Tinh people in particular. On this occasion, the market for offerings becomes more bustling than usual. At traditional markets in Ha Tinh, from the morning of January 13, the number of customers coming to buy offerings for the full moon began to increase.
According to records, the prices of some fresh foods, fruits, and fresh flowers are cheaper than during Tet. Accordingly, the price of pork is from 100 - 120,000 VND/kg, beef of all kinds is 220 - 250,000 VND/kg, ready-made chicken is 120 - 140,000 VND/kg..., about 10,000 VND/kg cheaper than Tet.
Many people bring live roosters to the market to sell on the occasion of the full moon. Depending on the deliciousness and beauty, the price of chickens ranges from 120,000 - 150,000 VND/kg.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhuan - a fruit vendor at Ha Tinh City Market said: The price of fruit on the full moon day is higher than usual, but cheaper than the Lunar New Year by 5-10,000 VND/kg. Some types of fruit that customers buy a lot are white-fleshed dragon fruit at 40,000 VND/kg, red-fleshed dragon fruit at 45,000 VND/kg, mango at 25-30,000 VND/kg, orange at 45-50,000 VND/kg, watermelon at 17-22,000 VND/kg...
White and yellow chrysanthemums are the most popular choices for customers at 7,000 VND/branch; lilies and roses are 8,000 VND/branch. According to traders, the current prices have “cooled down” compared to Tet by 1-2,000 VND/branch.
The price of areca nuts and betel leaves remains high, equivalent to the Tet holiday. Traders said that 2023 is a leap year, so the areca nuts are old and supply is limited. The price since the Tao Quan festival has been many times higher than in previous years. At this time, each plate of 1 areca nut and 1 betel leaf costs from 10,000 to 30,000 VND, depending on the beauty of the areca nuts.
Trading activities at the market on the full moon day of the first lunar month are as bustling as during the Lunar New Year, many stalls are crowded with customers. Ms. Nguyen Thi My - a gold paper seller at the Ha Tinh City market said: "During Tet, people usually buy scattered and early, so the number of customers does not rush at the same time like this full moon day. From the morning of the 13th of the first lunar month, the number of customers started to increase sharply, even though the store had 5 people preparing the offerings, it still could not keep up, there were times when customers had to wait in line for up to an hour" .
Buying offerings for the full moon on the afternoon of the 13th day of the first lunar month, Ms. Le Thi Nguyet (Van Yen ward, Ha Tinh city) shared: "The full moon day of the first lunar month is a special occasion. Every year, I carefully prepare the offerings to present to the ancestral altar, praying for a peaceful and lucky year. This year, the market for full moon offerings is quite rich, and the designs are also more diverse."
Along with traditional markets, fresh fruit shops, gift-wrapping shops, and worshiping services also recorded an increase in the number of customers; many customers placed orders right after Tet. From the afternoon of the 13th of the first lunar month, the establishments began delivering to customers.
The "online market" is also bustling with strange and beautiful pre-made offerings such as: peach dumpling sets, lotus-shaped dumplings, fruit trays, chicken sticky rice dishes, sweet rice balls...
