DNVN - The price of live pigs on October 25, 2024 continued to decrease in all three regions, with the Central Highlands region having the lowest price of 58,000 VND/kg in Dak Lak.
Pig price in the North
In the North, some localities recorded a decrease in live pig prices. Specifically, prices in Hanoi and the provinces of Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Phu Tho and Thai Nguyen remained at 63,000 VND/kg. Yen Bai and Lao Cai are currently at 62,000 VND/kg, while Vinh Phuc and neighboring provinces fluctuate around 61,000 VND/kg.
Currently, the price of live pigs in the North is still considered relatively high compared to other regions, ranging from 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the price of live pigs continued to fall sharply. Dak Lak recorded the lowest price of 58,000 VND/kg. In Binh Dinh and Quang Ngai, the price of live pigs was 59,000 VND/kg, while in provinces such as Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Tri, it fluctuated between 60,000 - 61,000 VND/kg.
Prices in the Central Highlands are currently lower than in the North, and many localities in this region are witnessing significant price reductions.
Pig price in the South
In the South, some localities also recorded a slight decrease in live pig prices. In Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, prices ranged from 61,000 - 62,000 VND/kg. In the Southwest region, provinces such as Vinh Long, An Giang and Dong Thap maintained prices in the range of 61,000 - 62,000 VND/kg, while some other provinces such as Tien Giang recorded a slight decrease, currently at 61,000 VND/kg.
In general, the price of live pigs in the South remains stable at around 61,000 - 62,000 VND/kg, although there is a slight downward trend in some localities.
The live hog market today recorded a downward trend in prices in all three regions, with the lowest price in the Central Highlands region at VND58,000/kg in Dak Lak. In the North, prices remained higher. It is expected that live hog prices may decrease slightly in some localities in the coming time.
While the Vietnamese market has recorded a prolonged downward trend, the price of live pigs in China is increasing again, currently at 62,700 VND/kg.
After storm No. 3, many northern provinces were severely affected, with the livestock industry suffering heavy losses. These localities will need time to recover production, so the live hog market is expected to remain high in the coming time. This is also an opportunity for livestock farmers to invest in production for the Tet holiday.
The end of the year is usually a time when consumption increases, and SSI Research predicts that pork prices will hardly fall to the low levels of last year, when prices fluctuated between VND52,000 - 56,000/kg.
Faced with concerns about year-end food supply, especially pork, Mr. Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - said that damage caused by natural disasters will significantly impact the growth rate of the livestock industry. To solve the problem of food supply from now until Tet, the Ministry will direct businesses and industry associations to coordinate to support people with breeding animals, feed and materials to quickly restore production and meet food needs. This is also to minimize the impact on CPI, exports and growth of the agricultural sector.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development believes that production will soon recover, especially in the fields of livestock and aquaculture to ensure domestic supply and export,” Mr. Phung Duc Tien emphasized.
