Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in collaboration with IDH (Netherlands) held a ceremony to transfer the pilot results of the Forest and Coffee Growing Area Database System in compliance with the European Union Deforestation Reduction Regulation (EUDR).
According to the Department of International Cooperation, with the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and support from international organizations, the pilot program has achieved important goals, including the establishment of a database system in four districts. This system helps demonstrate to international partners that Vietnamese coffee is not related to deforestation, thereby improving competitiveness in the international market.
Notably, the system is not only applicable to coffee but also extended to other industries such as rubber, pepper, and durian. This is an important step forward in forest resource management and sustainable agricultural development.
The National Action Plan Framework for EUDR adaptation has been issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with a clear roadmap to help value chain actors prepare for EUDR compliance and mitigate risks before the regulation comes into effect.
The traceability system from farm to district and provincial levels will be expanded, with the participation of the EUDR Adaptation Collaboration group including IDH, JDE Peet's and domestic and international coffee businesses. Key activities include building a database system, tracing product origins and supporting coffee farmers near forests.
