According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in July 2023, the number of imported cars of all types registered for customs declarations decreased slightly by 0.9%, equivalent to only 77 units less than the import volume of the previous month.
Specifically, the import volume of completely built-up cars of all kinds in July 2023 reached 8,929 units, equivalent to a value of 217 million USD. Meanwhile, the General Department of Customs recorded 9,006 imported completely built-up cars of all kinds last month with a value of 250 million USD.
In July 2023, all types of completely built-up cars registered for customs procedures for import into Vietnam mainly originated from 3 main markets: imported from Thailand with 3,714 units; imported from Indonesia with 3,520 units and imported from China with 591 units. The number of imported cars from these 3 markets reached 7,825 units, accounting for 88% of the total number of imported cars into Vietnam.

In July, 7,557 cars with 9 seats or less were imported into Vietnam with a value of 166 million USD, accounting for 84.6% of the total imported cars of all types. With this result, the number of cars with 9 seats or less imported into Vietnam in the month increased by 11.4% (equivalent to an increase of 771 cars) compared to the previous month.
Of which, the number of vehicles registered for import declarations is mainly in the border gate area and port of Ho Chi Minh City with 4,206 vehicles, an increase of 6% compared to the previous month and accounting for 56% of the total number of vehicles of this type imported to Vietnam; Hai Phong city with 3,054 vehicles, an increase of 15.8% and accounting for 40%.
In July, the imported cars with 9 seats or less were mainly imported from Thailand with 3,414 units, up 93.4% compared to the previous month, and from Indonesia with 3,236 units, down 12.9%. In total, the number of imported cars with 9 seats or less from these two markets reached 6,650 units, accounting for 88% of the total number of cars of this type imported into Vietnam. Only 1 car with more than 9 seats from China was imported into Vietnam in July.

Regarding transport vehicles: The number of vehicles completing customs procedures for import into our country in July was 847, with a value of 26.2 million USD; down 27.1% in volume and 38% in value compared to the previous month. Of which, 299 vehicles originated from China, down 14.1%; 276 vehicles originated from Thailand, down 48.5% and 260 vehicles originated from Indonesia, up 4%... compared to the previous month.
In July, Vietnamese enterprises imported 524 special-purpose vehicles with a declared value of 24.7 million USD, down 50.3% in volume and 42.9% in value compared to the previous month. Of these, 289 vehicles originated from China, down 70.7% compared to the previous month and accounting for 55% of the total number of vehicles of this type imported to Vietnam; 150 vehicles originated from Mexico, accounting for 29%.
In the first 7 months of 2023, the number of imported complete automobiles of all kinds to Vietnam was 79,822 units, an increase of 2.4% over the same period last year; of which, cars with 9 seats or less were 63,630 units, an increase of 4.3% and transport vehicles were 11,247 units, an increase of 5.4%.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in July, 262 million USD worth of auto parts and components of all kinds were imported into our country by businesses, down 26.3% compared to the previous month.
Vietnamese enterprises imported this group of goods last month with very diverse origins, mainly from China with 69.4 million USD, from Korea with 53.6 million USD, from Thailand with 41.5 million USD, from Japan with 31.1 million USD, from Indonesia with 19.2 million USD. In total, imported auto parts and components from these 5 countries of origin reached 214.8 million USD, accounting for 82% of the total import value of auto parts and components of the whole country last month.
In the first 7 months of 2023, the total import value of auto parts and components was 2.27 billion USD, down 30.7% (equivalent to a decrease of 1 billion USD) over the same period last year.
