Saigon Station opens first day of ticket sales for Tet 2024.
From 8:00 a.m. on October 20, the railway industry will sell train tickets for the 2024 Lunar New Year in many forms. According to Mr. Thai Van Truyen, General Director of Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, this year's train schedule for Tet is from January 26 to February 26, 2024 (from December 16 to January 17 of the lunar calendar).
According to VTC News reporters, before ticket sales opened, many customers were present at the waiting area of Saigon Station (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) to get a number to buy Tet tickets.
In the airy ticketing area, passengers can freely choose their seats.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Han, an employee at Saigon Railway Station, said that compared to last year, the number of passengers has decreased by nearly half. “My job is to guide people to get a queue number to buy tickets. From 8am when tickets opened for sale until after 9am, nearly 200 people got queue numbers,” Mr. Han said.
Fearing that he would not be able to buy a ticket, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hoanh (66 years old, from Quang Ngai) arrived at Saigon station early in the morning. However, when he arrived, Mr. Hoanh was quite surprised because the number of people buying tickets was quite small. He said: "Learning from experience from last year when I had to wait in line, I came early today. However, the ticket selling area today is airy, people can buy tickets very easily."
While waiting for their turn, many people carefully looked at the Tet train schedule and price list.
At the Tet ticket sales area, preparations were carefully carried out and the system operated smoothly.
A ticket seller here said that according to regulations, each passenger can only buy a maximum of 10 round-trip train tickets.
Because the number of people buying tickets is not as crowded as every year, each passenger only takes 3 - 5 minutes to complete the procedure.
During the 2024 Lunar New Year, the railway industry will organize about 390 trains, equivalent to 200,000 seats for trips from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi (10 days before Tet) and from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (15 days after Tet).
Responding to VTC News about the number of people buying train tickets for Tet, Mr. Thai Van Truyen, General Director of Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, said that as of 9am, 12,500 tickets had been sold and 13,400 tickets had been successfully booked and were awaiting payment. Of the 13,400 tickets, about 48% were purchased online, the rest were purchased directly.
According to Mr. Truyen, due to fluctuations in market prices and rising fuel prices, Tet ticket prices have been adjusted to increase by 1-4% compared to the same period in peak season (from Ho Chi Minh City). However, in the opposite direction, Tet ticket prices have decreased sharply by 1-8%.
According to Mr. Truyen, to make it easier for people to buy tickets online, Saigon Railway Station has prepared information technology infrastructure to ensure a smooth system. “According to statistics from morning to after 9am, at peak times there were about 7,000 people accessing online. Compared to last year, there were times when up to 50,000 people accessed. Therefore, I am sure there is no network congestion,” Mr. Truyen said.
Mr. Truyen added that in case of a sudden increase in customers, the station will set up more trains and add more cars to serve the people. “In case if we have set up more trains and add more cars but the number of passengers still needs, we will sell extra seats. However, the number of extra seats will be limited to ensure the quality of service,” Mr. Truyen said.
In addition, Mr. Truyen also recommends that people should buy tickets at reputable, official ticket sales points, avoid buying tickets through the "black market" which will not be valid for train travel.
