EVNNPC continues to buy electricity from YNIC for the North

The cooperation in purchasing electricity between EVNNPC and China Southern Power Grid Company (CSG)/YNIC Company started 20 years ago through 110 - 220 kV transmission lines at the electricity delivery points of Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Mong Cai.

The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) and the senior leadership delegation of Yunnan International Company Limited (YNIC) have just had a working session on the cooperation situation and development orientation in the coming time.

Exactly two decades ago - in 2004, the cooperation in electricity trading between China's Southern Power Grid Company (CSG) and EVN via 110 - 220 kV transmission lines at the Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Mong Cai electricity delivery points was established, officially laying the foundation for electricity cooperation between Vietnam and China.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien, General Director of EVNNPC and Mr. Duong Giuc Giam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of YNIC Company signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.

YNIC is the unit implementing electricity cooperation with South Asia and Southeast Asia of CSG, actively implementing the goal of friendly neighbors and mutually beneficial development strategy, constantly strengthening electricity cooperation with neighboring countries in general and Vietnam in particular.

Currently, EVNNPC is cooperating with CSG's subsidiary, YNIC Company, in establishing and operating the Seo Chong Ho Hydropower Plant since 2005. In addition, EVNNPC has cooperated in purchasing electricity with YNIC Company through EVN's Electricity Trading Company.

In addition, the two sides have cooperated in the field of training and exchange of experiences in technical management and safety.

With the results achieved in the past 20 years, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien, General Director of EVNNPC hopes that the close, extensive, long-term and sustainable cooperation between EVNNPC and YNIC Company will contribute to strengthening the Vietnam-China Electricity cooperation to a new height.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thien said that EVNNPC will study and send proposals for the two sides to study and implement in accordance with the procedures and regulations and establish a working group to work with YNIC Company.

Mr. Duong Giuc Giam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of YNIC Company, suggested that the two sides increase exchanges and discussions on cooperation areas. YNIC Company will establish a working group consisting of specialized departments for the two sides to discuss in detail the projects and build a safe training ground and identify hazards.

In order to further strengthen the cooperative relationship and enhance the long-term friendship between EVNNPC and YNIC Company, the two sides agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with many contents.

Previously, Chairman of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) Dang Hoang An also worked with Mr. Duong Duc Giam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yunnan International Company (YNIC) on the content of cooperation between the two sides.

At the meeting, Mr. Duong Duc Giam affirmed that China and Vietnam are two countries with a strategic partnership. Cooperation in electricity trading with Vietnam has become an important part of economic and trade cooperation between China and Vietnam.

In the coming time, YNIC hopes that the two sides will continue to expand the scale of grid connection, optimize connection methods, and make positive contributions to the prosperity and economic and social development of China and Vietnam. Currently, YNIC is researching and developing clean energy types such as wind power, solar power, pumped storage hydropower, etc. YNIC hopes to develop cooperation with EVN in this field.

Areas of cooperation between EVNNPC and YNIC
1. Continue cooperation in the field of electricity trading via the 110 kV grid connection line between EVNNPC and YNIC Company.
2. Cooperate in building a training ground on electrical safety and hazard identification at the Northern College of Electricity.
3. Establish an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) center or an O&M company under Viet Trung Power Investment Company Limited to sign contracts and perform repair, maintenance and operation services for small hydropower plants.
4. Seek opportunities, cooperate in investment, development and construction of small hydropower projects in Northern Vietnam and Laos.
5. Cooperation in the field of human resource training and training in technical management and operations (maintenance and repair, management and operation of power sources and grids, application of science and technology in energy transition, etc.) and occupational safety and hygiene.
