On January 24, according to information from Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), the 500kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line project (section in Vietnam) was successfully energized to serve the import of electricity from Laos.
The 500kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line project, invested by EVN, with the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) assigned as the investor's representative, was energized at 22:43 on January 23.
This is a key transmission grid project, serving the import of electricity from the Monsoon wind power plant (in Laos) to Vietnam, adding 600MW of electricity to the national power system in the 2024-2025 period.
The part of the project located in Vietnam is built in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province with a length of about 44.71 km, the total investment of the project is more than 1,100 billion VND.
This is a double-circuit transmission line project, connecting from the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster (in Laos) to the 500 kV Thanh My transformer station in Quang Nam province.
The project started on September 30, 2023 with many difficulties and challenges in converting forest use purposes, site clearance, difficult mountainous terrain and harsh weather in the area.
However, with the construction units on site and the strong direction of EVN/EVNPMB2, the project has completed the work according to the approved design. Of which, the volume of completed 90/90 concrete foundation positions, completed 90/90 steel column erection and completed 28/28 anchorage spans.
EVN said that the project in Vietnam was completed 40 days ahead of the power generation milestone of the Monsoon wind power project (in Laos, expected to be completed in early March 2025).
The 500kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line has the capacity to transmit a maximum capacity of up to about 2,500MW, contributing to improving the operational capacity of the national power system through importing electricity from Laos.
In the near future, after the Monsoon wind power plant project (Laos side) is completed, this power line project will receive imported electricity from Laos with a capacity of 600MW, with an expected average annual electricity output of about 1.7 billion kWh.
