Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has just spoken out about the recent information that "Vietnamese authorities have called on some businesses in the North to voluntarily reduce 30% of electricity usage".
However, EVN confirmed that this information is incorrect.
According to EVN, in June and the following months of 2024, the group has updated the growth in electricity demand and has developed plans and scenarios for operating the power system to ensure electricity for economic development and people's lives in all situations.

However, EVN still recommends that customers continue to use electricity economically, safely and effectively, especially from now until the end of 2024.
Previously, at the regular press conference for the first quarter of 2024 held on the afternoon of March 29, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed: " We have enough basis to believe that in 2024 and the following years, there will no longer be power shortages ."
According to the Deputy Minister, the power shortage that occurred in 2023 was a very regrettable incident and the Government and the Prime Minister have given many drastic instructions to overcome it. At the same time, the Government has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to take the lead in directing EVN to find all solutions to overcome it.
" The Ministry of Industry and Trade has focused on directing EVN to review and update input factors such as electricity load growth rate, weather (temperature, hydrology), power source progress, power grid, fuel supply capacity (coal, gas, oil) to calculate and update the plan to ensure electricity supply for the upcoming peak months of the dry season (from April to July) ," said Deputy Minister Tan.
Based on EVN's updated calculations, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will review and update the power supply and power system operation plan for the peak dry season months of 2024 to ensure adequate and continuous supply of fuel, especially coal and gas fuel for electricity production needs.
Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen the monitoring and inspection of the operation of power plant equipment, and prepare spare materials to ensure the highest availability of generators, especially thermal power plants in the Northern region.
Direct the reasonable regulation of hydroelectric reservoirs with the goal of ensuring the highest possible reserve power capacity of the power system during the peak dry season months.
EVN is requested to strengthen the inspection of the 500-220kV transmission grid corridor, inspect equipment on the power transmission system to promptly detect and fix any defects, if any, and minimize possible incidents.
At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade calls on localities, units, people and businesses to thoroughly implement electricity saving solutions, especially the group of production customers with large electricity consumption.
Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen the monitoring and inspection of the operation of power plant equipment, and prepare spare materials to ensure the highest availability of generators, especially thermal power plants in the Northern region.
