Chinese E-com Faces Challenges in Southeast Asia

VietNamNetVietNamNet16/10/2023

E-com is shaking up. TikTok’s push into e-commerce in Southeast Asia is facing new hurdles. Indonesia became the first country to ban e-commerce transactions via social media from late September 2023 to protect its micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. TikTok was forced to comply with the new regulations on October 4, stopping sales on its TikTok Shop platform.

Other countries in the region have begun to take steps to strengthen control over TikTok’s operations, notably Vietnam and Malaysia. In the near future, it is possible that more countries will introduce similar policies to strengthen control over TikTok’s operations in Southeast Asia.

China has made new strides in the field of quantum supercomputer manufacturing.

New achievements in quantum supercomputer manufacturing. Scientists from Hefei city (capital of Anhui province/China) have made new progress in manufacturing the prototype of the Jiuzhang 3.0 quantum computer. This is a supercomputer model that is evaluated to be capable of solving various complex calculations at a speed 10 million million times faster than Frontier - the world's most powerful supercomputer today. Scientists estimate that the Jiuzhang 3.0 computer will only need 1.27 microseconds to solve calculations that Frontier would take about 600 years to complete.

Hydrogen-powered ship tests China's first hydrogen-powered ship, the Three Gorges 1, has completed its maiden voyage in Yichang, Hubei Province. The event marks a breakthrough in the application of hydrogen-powered engine technology on ships. It is estimated that each new ship will save 103 tons of fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 343 tons per year. When fully loaded, the ship can travel 200 kilometers. The Three Gorges 1 will be used for transportation, inspection and emergency operations in the Three Gorges area.

Successful application of artificial intelligence and drones in rescue operations. For a week, Hong Kong (China) rescue forces organized a search for a missing teenager over an area of more than 10 square kilometers. This operation was very complicated due to the impact of Typhoon Koinu, while the victim did not carry electronic devices that allowed to determine his location. Rescue forces had to ask for the support of drones, taking more than 10,000 photos in this area and using artificial intelligence to analyze to determine the victim's location. The data was used to map the routes the victim may have taken. Thanks to that, the victim was found after 7 days of searching and is currently being treated in the hospital.
