Putting the entire Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway Project into operation from June 30, 2024

The completion of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot component project marked the completion of the entire Project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South Eastern route in the 2017 - 2020 period with a total length of 652.86km.

According to information from the Ministry of Transport, from 7:00 a.m. on June 30, 2024, the PPP project to invest in the construction of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section of the Project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South Eastern route in the 2017 - 2020 period will be put into operation for the last 19km of the route (from the intersection of National Highway 46B to the intersection of National Highway 8A).

The completion of the last 19km not only helps the entire Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section to be exploited synchronously over a total length of 49km, but also shortens the travel time from Hanoi to Nghe An to only about 3.5 hours instead of more than 5 hours as before.

This is also the final piece, marking the completion of all 11 component projects of the project to build a number of expressway sections on the North-South Eastern route in the 2017-2020 period with a total length of 652.86km.

It is known that the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section investment and construction component project has a total length of about 49km passing through two provinces: Nghe An (44km), Ha Tinh (5km), is one of three component projects of the project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South East route in the 2017 - 2020 period invested under the PPP method.

The total investment capital of the project is 11,157 billion VND, with the Ministry of Transport as the competent state agency. Project Management Board 6 is the project management agency.

The investor is a consortium of Hoa Hiep Company Limited - CIENCO4 Group - Nui Hong Company Limited - Truong Son Construction Corporation - VINA 2 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company. The project enterprise is Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company.

Although not the longest project, the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Component Project is a project with difficult construction terrain and complex geology that requires the use of many high-tech solutions, including: overpasses, large river bridges and mountain tunnels... Of which, Than Vu tunnel is about 1,100m long, the second longest mountain tunnel project on the North - South expressway in the East in the period of 2017 - 2020 (after Nui Vung tunnel on the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao route).

This is also a tunnel project deployed at a very special construction site. The tunneling work was carried out halfway up the mountain instead of at the foot of the mountain like most other tunnel projects on the route.

In phase 1, the project will exploit a tunnel on the right side of the route first. The tunnel on the left has been dug and concreted to serve rescue work during phase 1 exploitation. There is also Hung Duc bridge with a length of about 4,015m across Lam river, connecting Nghe An province with Ha Tinh, the longest river crossing bridge on the North-South expressway in the East.

Implementing the Prime Minister's direction: "cross the river, build a bridge, cross the field, fill the soil, cross the mountain, dig the mountain", on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section, there are also 4 large terrain overpass projects invested in, including: Xuan Duong 2 bridge, Than Vu 1 bridge, Than Vu 2 bridge, and O O bridge.

Among them, Xuan Duong 2 Bridge is the bridge with the tallest pillar on the route, with the tallest pillar reaching 52m. Than Vu 2 Bridge is the longest overpass bridge, with a length of nearly 1,300m.

The road tunnel located halfway up Than Vu mountain and the overpasses crossing the old forests blend the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway with nature, becoming one of the most beautiful sections on the entire North - South expressway in the East in the period of 2017 - 2020.

To facilitate connection, on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway, 3 interconnecting intersections have also been invested, including: Intersection with N5 road - Km446+00 connecting to National Highway 1 and National Highway 7 to the West of Nghe An province; Intersection of National Highway 46B - Km459+600 connecting to National Highway 46B to Vinh city, the bypass of Vinh city and Nam Dan district; Intersection of National Highway 8A - Km497+000 connecting to National Highway 1 and to the West through Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.

Previously, the investor, consulting enterprises and contractors have made efforts to overcome difficulties, mobilized all resources to speed up the project's construction progress, inaugurated and put into operation the first 30km (the section from the beginning of the route connecting with the Nghi Son - Dien Chau Component Project at the intersection of National Highway 7 to the intersection of National Highway 46B).

For the remaining 19km (from the National Highway 46B intersection to the end of the National Highway 8A intersection), due to the large area of ​​weak ground, it takes time to wait for subsidence. Up to now, the main route items have been completed and put into operation from June 30, 2024.

The project will be put into operation from June 30, 2024 to ensure expressway connectivity from Hanoi to Duc Tho district (Ha Tinh province), overcome traffic congestion and reduce traffic accidents on National Highway 1A.

After the entire Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section is put into operation, vehicles allowed to circulate (with a maximum speed of 90 km/h and a minimum speed of 60 km/h) include: cars, passenger cars, trucks ≤ 10 tons.

Subjects not allowed to participate in traffic on highways include: trucks >10 tons, motorbikes, scooters, tractors, specialized motorbikes with a speed of ≤ 70km/h, rudimentary vehicles, and pedestrians.

Drivers participating in traffic on highways must comply with regulations on road load and size limits, and safety rules according to current laws (Do not allow vehicles to enter emergency parking areas and roadside areas; in case of forced emergency stopping or parking, the driver must move the vehicle to the emergency lane, place warning signs, and notify the support hotline...).
