Turn data into resources and means of production

On March 22, the National Data Association (NDA) was officially launched and successfully held its first National Congress for the 2025-2030 term.

NDA was established under Decision No. 10/QD-BNV January 10, 2025 of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the mission of connecting management agencies, businesses, organizations and individuals operating in the data field. The Association aims to build a strong data ecosystem, contributing to promoting the development of the digital economy and increasing the value of data in the national economy.

Chairman of TH Group Strategy Council Thai Huong, who is also Vice Chairman of the National Data Association, shared: The need to apply high technology and use data in production and business is necessary and mandatory in the new era. To fully exploit the country's agricultural advantages, it is necessary to take advantage of achievements in digital technology, cloud technology, artificial intelligence, internet of things and big data... From there, turn them into means of production and resources.

She cited that in the 2000s, the world exploded with technological and digital revolutions. In 2008, TH Group applied this achievement to agriculture through a large-scale industrial dairy farming project and succeeded. The project included cultivation, breeding, processing and logistics in a closed chain from pasture to table.

In the field of cultivation, irrigation for crops is completely automated through smart applications. Or in a planting cycle, only a few plows, harrows, sowing, harvesting, one day is equal to 800 workers. That is an example of using data to manage costs, prices and quality.

“Therefore, the birth of NDA will be a foundation to promote the transformation of data into resources and means of production,” said Ms. Thai Huong. According to her, sharing data and experience between businesses is the shortest way to bring technology into the production and business process, helping businesses learn from each other’s experiences.

Data is an open resource that needs to be shared and disseminated, but it is also a business asset. Therefore, with the birth of NDA, Ms. Thai Huong believes that businesses have confidence and are willing to share data under the protection of the law and the protection of the association.

Mr. Le Tri Thong, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of PNJ Company, and Vice Chairman of the National Data Association, also emphasized the importance of digital data in business development.

Furthermore, applying Big Data and artificial intelligence (AI) not only helps businesses grasp trends but also create products and services suitable for each customer segment, Mr. Thong shared.

According to a report by the World Economic Forum, by 2027, data and AI will account for more than 50% of the value created in the global digital economy. In Vietnam, the digitization of areas such as healthcare, finance, education, transportation, etc. has led to a huge demand for standardization, connection, and data protection.

The birth of the National Data Association comes at a time when data is becoming a new strategic resource of the economy.

Notably, the fact that vice presidents, general directors, deputy general directors of a series of large corporations such as PNJ, TH, Masan, Sun Group, FPT, BRG... in our country were elected to the NDA Executive Board shows that the combination of public and private sectors, enterprises are no longer standing outside the data game but must become creators.

According to the NDA leader, the association will act as a bridge between businesses, build a rich and sustainable data ecosystem, meet the needs of comprehensive digital transformation, and lay the foundation for a new digital era of the country.

Ms. Thai Huong - Founder, Chairwoman of TH Group's Strategy Council, emphasized that the modern world has enormous achievements in science and technology, management science, digital technology, AI, big data, IoT... To take advantage of these achievements, we need to have some decisions, appropriate policy mechanisms for each period, for each industry to lead, to encourage, and create "leading birds" in each field.

“As a member of the National Data Association, specifically in the Production and Supply Chain Board of the NDA, we have determined that within 3 years we will build a national data platform on agriculture and production, creating a transparent and effective data sharing and connection system between the State, businesses, farmers, investors and distributors,” said Ms. Thai Huong.

At the same time, applying the above achievements to supply chain management and operation helps improve productivity and product quality. Ensuring sustainable development, increasing added value and competitiveness of Vietnamese agriculture, forestry, fishery and seafood in the international market, promoting green agriculture, sustainable development and environmental protection.

Meanwhile, Mr. Le Tri Thong pledged to make every effort and work with the members of the NDA Executive Board to strongly promote strategic initiatives. Thereby, making an important contribution to protecting, promoting and enhancing the power of data science to serve the goal of sustainable economic development of the country.
