Vietnamese MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) groups are increasingly choosing Phuket and Chiang Mai as their new favorite destinations, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
TAT noted that in the past, Vietnamese travel companies often chose Bangkok and Pattaya as the main routes for MICE groups to Thailand. However, recently, they have begun to tend to choose the above two locations, in addition to Krabi, Hua Hin or Cha-am. In addition to the advantage of having direct flights from Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Chiang Mai and Phuket attract tourists with their natural beauty, rich historical architecture, unique cuisine and facilities and infrastructure that meet their needs.
Phuket was recognized by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy in 2015. The city has a traditional culinary culture and cultural exchange and transmission through many generations. It is estimated that the local cuisine can generate economic value of more than 3.6 billion USD per year.

According to the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), in the first 3 months of the year, the number of MICE visitors from Vietnam to Thailand skyrocketed to 4th place, behind Malaysia, Singapore and China. In the 2019 fiscal year, Thailand's international MICE visitors reached nearly 1,580,663. Of which, the number of visitors from Vietnam was 42,729, ranking 8th.
Therefore, Thailand is the main MICE market of Vietravel Tourism Company. This market has a great advantage since Vietravel opened its own airline and flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi to Bangkok.
"In the first 6 months of the year, the company recorded a growth of more than 50% in the number of MICE tourists traveling to Thailand compared to the same period in 2019 - before the pandemic. This market accounts for nearly 30% of the company's foreign MICE business segment. This is a fairly large number because Vietravel always considers Thailand a key market," emphasized Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh, Director of Vietravel Marketing Department. It is expected that in the third and fourth quarters, Vietravel will welcome about 100,000 MICE tourists.
According to Vietravel representative, Thailand is the most suitable choice for MICE guests, because of reasonable cost, diverse cultural, culinary and entertainment factors.
Ms. Khanh also added that for executive or high-end tourists, they often choose the following locations: Royal Palace, Khao Chee Chan, Wat Benchamabophit, Golden Buddha Temple, Coral Island, buffet dinner on Chao Phraya River cruise, watching art shows, shopping and enjoying Thai cuisine...
