According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), at the close, buying power dominated the industrial raw materials market. In particular, Arabica coffee prices continued to increase for the fifth consecutive session, regaining the mark of 8,290 USD/ton and establishing the highest level in more than a week.

Meanwhile, Robusta coffee prices also edged up 0.28%, closing at $5,388/ton - the highest in more than two weeks. According to MXV, concerns about coffee supply from Brazil continued to support coffee prices in yesterday's trading session.

Brazil's Robusta coffee exports fell sharply in March due to lower production. According to data from the Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé), Brazil's total coffee exports last month fell 26% year-on-year to 2.95 million bags, of which Robusta (green coffee) exports reached only 138,600 bags, down 40% from February and much lower than the 862,500 bags in March 2024. This is a sharp decline after Robusta exports hit a record last year. The main reason is limited supply due to adverse weather, causing Brazil's Robusta output to decline significantly during the crop year.

The average export price of Vietnamese coffee in the first quarter of 2025 reached 5,670 USD/ton, a sharp increase of 72.2% over the same period.

Meanwhile, the coffee inventory situation on the ICE exchange on April 16 recorded mixed developments. Accordingly, Arabica inventory on the ICE exchange decreased slightly, down to 787,313 bags, while Robusta inventory increased slightly but remained at the lowest level since the peak set on March 25 at 4,414 lots.

In the domestic market, the price of green coffee beans in the Central Highlands continued to increase sharply on April 16, averaging VND133,000/kg, up 2% and VND2,900/kg higher than the previous session. Specifically, coffee prices in Dak Lak and Gia Lai both reached VND133,000/kg, Lam Dong at VND132,000/kg, and Dak Nong recorded the highest price of VND133,200/kg. This increase reflects the impact of tight global supply and positive developments on international trading floors.

According to statistics from the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ), in March, Vietnam's coffee exports reached 181,115 tons, worth 1.06 billion USD, up 6.6% in volume and 10.3% in value compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period in 2024, it decreased by 3.9% in volume and increased sharply by 58.1% in value.

This is also the first time in history that the Vietnamese coffee industry has recorded export turnover exceeding the 1 billion USD mark in just one month.

With this result, coffee exports in the first quarter reached 495,780 tons, worth more than 2.8 billion USD, down 15.3% in volume but up 45.8% in value compared to the same period last year. The main reason is that export prices continue to remain high.

The average export price of Vietnamese coffee in the first quarter of 2025 reached 5,670 USD/ton, a sharp increase of 72.2% over the same period. In March alone, the price reached 5,873 USD/ton, an increase of 3.4% over February and up to 64.5% over March 2024.

In the first quarter of this year, coffee exports to major markets such as the European Union (EU), the United States, Japan, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, etc. all recorded a decrease in volume due to limited supply. However, thanks to strong price increases, the export value to these markets still increased.

The EU is Vietnam’s largest coffee export market with a volume of 226,050 tons, worth 1.27 billion USD, accounting for 45.6% of total coffee exports. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume decreased by 6.5%, but the turnover increased by 63.4%.

The US is the second largest consumer market, accounting for 6.5% in volume and 6.4% in value. Specifically, exports to this market reached 32,395 tons, earning 180.3 million USD, down 13% in volume but up 50.8% in value over the same period.
