The family of Mr. Giang Chu Sinh, in Leo Cha Phin B village, is one of 20 households that are benefiting from the project to support breeding cows from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction implemented by Son Vi commune in the village. To implement this project, each household is supported with 18.4 million VND to buy breeding cows. When the village informed that his family was a beneficiary of the project, his family planted an additional 0.5 ha of grass to ensure food for livestock, and the family also renovated the barn.

Mr. Giang Chu Sinh shared: “Since receiving support for the cows, my family has focused on taking good care of them so that they can grow, develop, and give birth to calves soon. I hope this will be the condition to help my family escape poverty next year.”

Also a poor household participating in the Project, Mrs. Gia Thi Gia's family was supported with 18.4 million VND, together with counterpart capital, she was able to buy a cow. So far, the cow has given birth to 1 calf. With the additional breeding stock, the family has the motivation to do business, develop the herd of cows to increase income, and the family economy has also changed significantly. Mrs. Gia said: "The project has created opportunities for poor and near-poor households like us to gradually rise up and escape poverty sustainably. Thank you to the Party and Government for caring about the poor people in the highlands."

Chairman of Son Vi Commune People's Committee Thao Mi Sinh said that in order for the breeding cow model to be effectively implemented, the commune government has assigned specific tasks to each officer and civil servant in charge and must regularly monitor and report on the results of the model. At the same time, it has assigned specialized staff to support people so that they can effectively use the capital from the Program. Thanks to that, up to now, 70% of the breeding cows of households have given birth to calves, and the herds of cows of the families are developing well.

Mr. Thao Mi Sinh added that in 2023, the commune's total livestock herd will be more than 8,800; the commune's average income in 2023 will reach 21 million VND/person/year. The poverty rate will decrease from 69.35% to 55.72%.

The project of breeding cows in Son Vi commune has contributed to supporting poor and near-poor households to develop their household economy. Through the implementation of the project, the effectiveness of State investment has been improved, jobs have been created, incomes have been increased for the poor, economic development has been accelerated and sustainable, and poverty reduction has been achieved, contributing positively to poverty reduction in the locality. This is evidence of the policies and solutions for socio-economic development that are suitable to local realities.
