The president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, said that he had turned down the invitation to play friendly matches with the Brazilian and Argentine teams. Coach Kim Pan Gon himself considered such matches not really suitable and he did not want to play just to gain fame.
Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said: " Brazil offered to host a friendly match (at the FIFA Congress - PV) but I refused. I think now is not the right time. I can do it if I show a little but now is not the time and coach Kim Pan Gon thinks so too ."
Malaysia national football team refused to play friendly matches with Brazil and Argentina.
Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin also turned down an offer to play a friendly match with Argentina last year. He added: " I also have a good relationship with the Argentine Football Association and they invited us but coach Kim Pan Gon was not very enthusiastic. If you want to play against them, you have to have a really strong team ."
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Football Federation has decided to hold a friendly match with the Argentine team on June 19 in Jakarta. According to Indonesian media, the country's football federation had to spend 5 million USD to invite the reigning 2022 World Cup champion. This amount does not include travel, accommodation, and organization costs.
Famous Indonesian football expert Mohamad Kusnaeni said that this match will attract fans but will not bring any professional benefits. Even a heavy loss can affect the players' psychology and confidence.
Argentina will arrive in Indonesia with the strongest squad. They have called up almost all the stars who won the 2022 World Cup. Some players such as Lisandro Martinez, Dybala and Lautaro are absent due to injury.
