Located at the western gateway of Quang Ninh province and at the intersection of the Northern key economic triangle, including Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh, Dong Trieu has many conditions to promote the development of services and trade. In particular, when the city is established with specific plans, it will be the driving force for the service - trade sector to have new breakthroughs.

In order to promote the development of high-quality services and trade, in recent times, Dong Trieu has focused on closely coordinating with investors to soon put large-scale projects into operation, creating a new look for the city, including the Dong Trieu Golf Course project. The project was started in October 2021, in the Khe Che Lake area (An Sinh commune) invested by Silk Path Golf Course Joint Stock Company under Silk Path Group with a scale of about 130 hectares, with a total investment of more than 1,270 billion VND. In addition to the 9-hole and 18-hole golf courses, this area also has low-rise accommodation buildings, high-rise hotels, golf courses, green infrastructure, landscapes, entertainment areas, and high-class ecological resort spaces according to 5-star standards.
Mr. Robert Reynolds, General Manager of Dong Trieu Golf Course shared: We are very pleased to hear that on November 1, 2024, Dong Trieu will officially become a city. This will certainly help enhance the position and image of Dong Trieu Golf Course to partners. Therefore, we are actively speeding up the completion of the final items and recruiting staff so that the golf course will officially come into operation in February 2025. With the combination of resort and golf, we aim to welcome 800-1,000 guests/day after operation and will bring many development opportunities in the service - trade sector as well as tourism development of Dong Trieu City in the coming time.
As the western gateway of the province, Dong Trieu has National Highways 18 and 17B running through it, connecting Quang Ninh with Hai Duong and other localities in the province; Provincial Road 333 helps the locality connect with Thuy Nguyen District (Hai Phong City); Provincial Road 332 connects Dong Trieu with Hai Duong Province via Trieu Bridge; Provincial Road 345 connects Dong Trieu with Bac Giang Province. The advantages of the traffic system location have been creating favorable conditions for the locality to transport goods, exchange and integrate economically and socially with localities inside and outside the province.

Seizing the opportunity when the town becomes a city, many other businesses in the area have also built a long-term strategy in developing services - trade. Mr. Pham Thanh Hoan, Director of Lan Chi Mart shared: With its position as the western gateway of the province, Dong Trieu has many advantages when the traffic infrastructure is increasingly synchronized with neighboring localities such as Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Hai Phong. When becoming a city with invested industrial parks and industrial clusters, Dong Trieu will attract a large number of workers from the above localities. This will directly impact the growth of the trade sector. Therefore, we have decided to open another branch in Mao Khe ward in 2025 with a scale 1.5 times larger.
Not only expanding branches, many businesses have also mobilized resources to open new business services. Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, Deputy Director of Thuy An Center Event Organization Center (Thuy An Commune) added: We currently have an event organization center, wedding party, supermarket, gas station with an investment of over 80 billion VND. During peak months of the year, we welcome about 21,000 visitors/month. Among them, there are many customers from Hai Duong province. This shows that investing in upgrading infrastructure and traffic routes to turn Dong Trieu into a city is very on the right track. We are currently continuing to complete procedures to be licensed to invest in the first high-class car maintenance garage for the young city. In addition, we also hope that when Dong Trieu becomes a city, it will form more industrial parks and industrial clusters to further promote trade and service development.
According to the Master Plan to 2040, the driving force for urban development of Dong Trieu in the coming period is forecasted to be based on 4 pillars: Agriculture, forestry; industry; trade - services - tourism; transportation. In which, urban areas, agricultural areas, rural areas, natural areas, tourist areas, industrial areas, etc. will be reasonably arranged to ensure the synchronization and harmony of the landscape, effective land use and convenience in transportation, while protecting the natural environment.
To ensure that the trade and service pillars shift in the right direction, in recent times, the locality has encouraged businesses to expand their trade and service businesses, diversifying their types to meet the increasing needs of the people. Accordingly, on the roads, many businesses and individual business households have boldly invested in expanding their trade and service activities. In addition, the locality has also built convenience stores to meet the increasing needs of consumers, helping the circulation of retail goods in the domestic market to grow. To date, the number of households providing trade services in the locality is over 12,000. The number of individual business households providing trade services is widely distributed in 21/21 communes and wards, meeting the needs of buying, selling and exchanging goods for the people in the locality. Statistics show that Dong Trieu's total retail sales of goods and service revenue in the first 9 months of 2024 reached nearly VND 8,100 billion (reaching about 80% of the growth scenario target for 2024). Dong Trieu also set a target in 2024, striving to reach VND 10,755 billion in the trade - service sector (up 17.1% over the same period, accounting for 4.9 percentage points in the locality's growth rate in 2024).
Promoting investment attraction to develop various types of trade and services along with improving product quality will also be a driving force to promote other local service sectors such as: Logistics, telecommunications, information technology, science and technology services, consulting, finance, banking, insurance, etc. This is also the key for the young city of Dong Trieu to strongly shift its economic structure and labor structure towards increasing the proportion of services and reducing the proportion of agriculture.
