(CLO) A powerful earthquake with an initial magnitude of 7.0 shook the northern coast of the US state of California on Thursday, triggering a tsunami warning.
However, the tsunami warning has now been canceled and US Geological Survey officials said they had received no reports of landslides or other significant damage.
The earthquake's epicenter was about 50 miles southwest of Eureka, California, according to the USGS. Nearly 5 million people were under tsunami warnings from Davenport, California, to Douglas/Lane Line, Oregon.

USGS data showed the quake produced "severe shaking." California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. One Eureka resident said he felt seasick from the quake's vibrations.
White House spokesman Jeremy Edwards said Thursday that President Joe Biden had been briefed on the powerful earthquake.
More than 3,000 customers in Humboldt County, California, the county closest to the earthquake's epicenter, were without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
California officials said there has been no significant damage reported so far, describing the quake as “long-lasting” but not as “intense” as previous events. There were also no reports of injuries or damage in San Francisco, according to Capt. Justin Schorr of the city’s fire department.
Aftershocks are expected near the epicenter of the quake, but further magnitude 7 earthquakes are unlikely, seismologist Jeffrey Park said.
