Chinese team does not have to pay compensation for firing coach Jankovic

Sina newspaper revealed that coach Aleksandar Jankovic is unlikely to continue leading the Chinese team after the failure at the 2023 Asian Cup. However, the Chinese Football Association does not have to pay in case of firing this coach.

Accordingly, in the contract terms between the two parties, the Chinese Football Association includes a clause requiring performance in each stage. If the coach fails to complete the requirements, the Association has the right to terminate the contract without any compensation.

The contract required Mr. Jankovic to take the Chinese team through the group stage and strive to reach the quarterfinals. The Serbian coach failed to fulfill the minimum task. The team was eliminated after finishing third in Group A with only 2 points.

Coach Jankovic will not receive compensation if he is fired.

China is one of two teams in this year’s Asian Cup that failed to score a goal, along with India. This weakness has brought further criticism to Mr. Jankovic.

Coach Jankovic probably also understood that his time with the Chinese team was over. Sina newspaper wrote: " On the afternoon of January 24, the national team returned from Doha to Beijing. Mr. Jankovic hugged each player at the hotel and said goodbye. Perhaps he knew this was the last time he would see them ."

Sina newspaper rated coach Jankovic as the least qualified foreign coach ever. First of all, this coach has an unimpressive resume. He is listed in the "3 no" group, meaning he has not coached any national team, has not coached any team in the top 5 European leagues and has no experience working in Asia.

In 15 matches leading the Chinese team, he won 4 matches, drew 4 and lost 7. His wins were not highly appreciated when the opponents were only low-ranking Asian teams such as Myanmar, Palestine, Vietnam and Thailand.

In addition, Sina newspaper said that coach Jankovic did not choose the best players for the national team and did not have sharp tactics to promote the players' abilities.

The Chinese Football Association is targeting three candidates: coaches Jordi Vinyals, Seo Jung-won and Choi Kang-hee.
