Unique HUFLIT football team asks teacher to be... 'blue team' before 2 'final' matches

On the afternoon of December 31, the HUFLIT team had a practice session to get acquainted with the official competition field at Ton Duc Thang University. Head coach Ton Duc Trung took advantage of this practice session to play a friendly match as a rehearsal before entering the journey to conquer the qualifying round of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024 THACO Cup (starting from January 6, 2024). In addition, the HUFLIT team also flexibly arranged for their team a quality "blue team" to test the fire.

Notably, the opponents of the HUFLIT team in this friendly match are... lecturers. Regarding this interesting thing, Coach Duc Trung revealed: "This is the holiday period, so the HUFLIT team does not have enough players of more than 20 because many of them have returned to their hometowns. With more than 10 people, we cannot practice tactical pieces. Therefore, I have to ask teachers from my school and other schools, plus students who are not on the team to come and support, so that the training is more effective. This friendly match is also an opportunity for students and lecturers to exchange, connect and practice health".

Speaking more about his team's strength, Coach Duc Trung said that the HUFLIT team's personnel participating in the 2nd Youth Student Tournament is "better" than the 1st tournament. In addition, participating in the 2nd tournament also helps the whole team gain more experience in training and preparation, making the players more confident when starting to compete. "Before that, the HUFLIT team also participated in a preliminary tournament. It can be said that we have prepared quite thoroughly. The team's strength this time is very even. The personnel include both experienced players and new players, spread from year 1 to year 4, with equal levels of skill," Coach Trung shared.

In the Ho Chi Minh City regional qualifying round, HUFLIT is in group 3, along with Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. Commenting on this group, coach Duc Trung said that all 3 teams are quite similar, both in terms of expertise and strength. HUFLIT's head coach said: "When the draw was just finished, I felt a bit worried because this group had 3 teams. But looking back, I think HUFLIT's chances will be greater when they are in group 3 teams. We have a break from the first round and will watch the other 2 teams play first. In group 3 teams, just winning the first match will have a high chance of topping the group. Meanwhile, in group 4 teams, even if they win 1 or 2 matches, they are not sure of a place."

According to coach Duc Trung, being in the group of 3 teams is an advantage but also a big challenge for HUFLIT. Because each team can only play 2 matches and everyone will have the highest determination to win. "The three teams in this group are all of equal level. Therefore, when entering the field, the team that takes advantage of the opportunity better and is luckier will win. As for us, every match is a final, HUFLIT students always try their best for the flag. Because there are only 2 matches, we have to be more careful," said Mr. Trung.
