In Tra Nam commune, Nam Tra My district, the number of suspected measles rash cases is increasing day by day, to date 108 cases have been detected and treated at health facilities from the commune to the district. To have space to receive and admit patients, all offices at the commune health station have been requisitioned.
Mr. Le Duy Quang - Chairman of Tra Nam Commune People's Committee said that in addition to the influence of bad customs, people's awareness of the danger of measles is still very limited, which is also the biggest barrier to the process of detecting and treating the disease. The local government had to mobilize many forces, including the Commune Police, to help bring the patient to a medical facility.
“We survey each family and encourage people to take the sick to medical facilities. For difficult cases, we will arrange for commune officials to take the sick. At the same time, we will arrange logistics to take care of food for the sick and their relatives so that they can rest assured during treatment,” said Mr. Quang.
The rash fever epidemic began to be recorded on January 28, 2025 in Tra Leng commune, then broke out strongly in the first two weeks of February in Tra Leng and Tra Don. Up to now, although the measles epidemic in these two localities has been basically controlled, the disease is still complicated, when most communes in the district have recorded cases.
Dr. Tran Van Thu - Director of Nam Tra My District Medical Center informed that since March 3, 2025, rash fever has appeared in 10/10 communes. As of March 16, there were 335 cases hospitalized at the District Medical Center, of which 67 cases are still being treated. The number of cases mainly comes from Tra Tap, Tra Vinh, Tra Van, Tra Cang and Tra Nam communes.
“We have now completed the measles-rubella vaccination for nearly 3,100 children, in line with the schedule required by the Department of Health. The treatment response, along with the full dose of measles-rubella vaccine, will create good immunity. The epidemic is being controlled and is progressing towards containment. In the next 2 weeks, the rash fever situation will decrease.”
To proactively control and effectively suppress the epidemic, the health sector of Nam Tra My district has proposed a number of solutions, including promoting the role of propaganda and mobilizing families with children with rash fever to go to medical facilities as soon as possible.
At the same time, communes are required to direct schools to grasp the situation of sick students, promptly report to the health station to coordinate in taking children to the station for treatment. To raise awareness among people in disease prevention, avoiding cases of hiding illness, Nam Tra My district and communes are actively organizing house-to-house propaganda so that people can recognize the signs of illness and promptly go to the nearest health station for advice and treatment support.
