Vietnamese enterprises participate in master planning of Laos airport system

(NLDO)- Sovico Group and TEDI participate in consulting, surveying and master planning for the project to develop the airport system in Laos.


On the afternoon of January 9, in Vientiane (Laos), at the Vietnam - Laos Investment Cooperation Conference 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone witnessed agencies and partners of the two countries handing over licenses, documents, and cooperation agreements to implement projects worth billions of USD.

There were 13 investment certificates and investment cooperation agreements granted to businesses of the two countries.

Of which, Vietnam granted the Certificate of Overseas Investment Registration to 3 projects: SDVIC Wind Power Joint Stock Company with the Savan1 Wind Power Plant Project increased its investment capital to 32 million USD; (Vinamilk) with the dairy farm complex project in Laos increased its investment capital to 85.2 million USD; Military Bank (MB) with the MB Bank Laos project increased its capital to 229.9 billion Lao kip.

The Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment has awarded a contract appendix to Viet Phuong Investment Group Joint Stock Company for the project of exploiting bauxite and building an alumina processing plant in Laos. The project has a designed capacity of 1 million tons of alumina per year with a total investment of about 1 billion USD.

The ministry also awarded a contract to develop five small hydropower projects in Ka Lum district, Sekong province (total capacity of 180 MW) to Viet Phuong Group with an investment capital of 197 million USD.

The Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines granted a construction license to the Vietnam Chemical Group for a project to exploit and process potash salt, with an investment capital of 522.4 million USD. The Lao side awarded a concession contract for the Savan 1 Wind Power Plant Project.

Businesses from both sides have exchanged 6 agreements and memorandums of cooperation.

Notably, Sovico Group and Transport Design and Consulting Corporation (TEDI) awarded a consulting contract to survey and develop a master plan for the project to develop the airport system in Laos for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2050 to the Lao Ministry of Transport and Public Works and the Lao Airports Corporation.

Vietnam Airlines and Lao Airlines also signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation.

Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines will support Lao Airlines in providing technical services at Wattay International Airport (Vientiane) and Luang Prabang for the Airbus A320/321 fleet, as soon as Lao Airlines meets the service certificate requirements.

The two sides also signed a cooperation agreement in the field of cargo transportation at Wattay airport when Lao Airlines completed the establishment of a cargo service company.

The two sides also cooperate in training and experience exchange, converting the joint venture cooperation between the two airlines into a more flexible form, expanding connections on flight routes not only between Vietnam and Laos but also reaching out to other markets.

The Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries and the Vietnam - Laos Agricultural Products Group Joint Stock Company signed an agreement on investment cooperation to develop a high-tech aquaculture chain in hydroelectric reservoirs in Laos.

The Institute of Human Resources Development and International Cooperation (IHC), the Association of Vietnamese Enterprises in Laos (AVILA) and the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Laos (YEAL) signed a tripartite cooperation agreement to train human resources for Lao enterprises.

MB also signed an agreement with Savan 1 Wind Power Company Limited and Xekong Thermal Power Company Limited on arranging capital for the Savan 1 Wind Power Plant and Xekong Thermal Power Plant projects.

At the conference, Mr. Tran Ba ​​Duong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Group, presented on large-scale agricultural development investment, industrial parks, and logistics centers in Laos; Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Anh Tuan spoke on the master plan for the project to develop the airport system in Laos, aviation investment in Laos, and expansion into other fields such as tourism, etc.

Immediately after the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone witnessed the State Bank of Vietnam and the Bank of the Lao PDR announcing the framework for local currency payment and bilateral retail payment connection using QR codes between Vietnam and Laos.
