The bronze medal went to boxer Vo Thi Phuong Quynh in the kurash category, after losing to her Iranian opponent 0-3 in the women's 87kg category in the semi-finals.
This is also the only medal of the Vietnamese kurash team at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
With this result, the Vietnamese sports delegation won 17 medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver and 13 bronze medals, temporarily ranking 18th in the overall medal tally of ASIAD 19.
Compared to the Vietnamese delegation, other Southeast Asian sports delegations such as Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore or Malaysia are having better results.
Thailand is currently ranked 7th in the 19th ASIAD medal tally with 10 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 16 bronze medals.
The Indonesian sports delegation also won 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 11 bronze medals to rank 13th; Singapore ranked right behind with 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
Notably, on the competition day of October 2, athlete Veronica Shanti Pereira of Singapore won the prestigious 200m gold medal in athletics at the 19th ASIAD with 23.03 seconds.
At the top of the 19th ASIAD medal table, the Chinese sports delegation is still number 1 with 147 gold medals, 81 silver medals and 42 bronze medals.
The Japanese sports delegation ranked second with 33 gold medals, 44 silver medals and 45 bronze medals. The Korean delegation had 31 gold medals, 39 silver medals and 63 bronze medals.
With this gap, China will almost certainly take the number 1 position when the 2023 Asian Games conclude.
