Selling flowers for the October 20 holiday for two days now on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (Binh Thanh District), Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich said that the price of imported and sold roses has slightly decreased compared to last year.
However, the store does not dare to import as much as every year for fear of unsold products. "On October 19th every year, about 30-40% of the products are sold, but today it is only 20-25%. Hopefully, on October 20th, customers will buy more," said Ms. Bich.
Retailing at around 15,000 VND/rose and 200,000 - 700,000 VND/basket depending on the type, Mr. Do Hung Manh, owner of a "field" flower selling point on Pham Van Dong Street (Thu Duc City), said that the selling price has not increased but purchasing power is quite weak.
"I only dare to import 700 - 800 rose branches of various kinds, about 30% less than every year, along with some sunflowers, gerberas... to make beautiful flower baskets. But I'm worried about slow sales so I may have to reduce the price soon or else I'll have to throw them away," Mr. Manh worried.
Talking to Tuoi Tre , Mr. Nguyen Minh, representative of Happy Flower store (District 1), said that the flower market on October 20 this year is quiet, sales are slow due to economic difficulties, people are tightening their spending.
"The store mainly focuses on bouquets of flowers with more affordable prices, from 500,000 to 900,000 VND, reducing the design of large, expensive bouquets like in previous years. Although there are still customers buying high-end bouquets, the number has decreased significantly," said Mr. Minh.
Mr. Ly Phu Qui, director of Dam Sen flower market (District 11), said that the amount of roses imported to the market on October 19 was about 150 - 170 boxes (30 - 35 bunches/box, each bunch has 50 flowers), in which the amount of roses decreased compared to previous years but the price of flowers was not as high as previous years, and purchasing power was slow.
"On October 20, the demand for flowers as gifts may increase, but the selling price is not expected to increase much, or even decrease if there are still many flowers in the afternoon," Mr. Qui predicted.
Many gardeners in Lam Dong said that the amount of flowers coming to Ho Chi Minh City on October 20 this year decreased compared to previous years due to unfavorable weather leading to low output. In addition, they had to increase the supply to the North, because this area was affected by previous storms and floods, so the local supply was almost very low.
