On the evening of February 13, before going to bed, Mr. Chi Hoang (born in 1974, living in Hanoi) held a pen and silently sketched and calculated the running route to create a rose shape as a surprise gift for his wife on Valentine's Day.

At 5am on February 14, he changed his clothes and took a motorbike taxi from Thanh Xuan district to Hoan Kiem lake area (Hoan Kiem district) to run the special route.

This man started from the fountain at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, passed through Hang Non and Hang Quat streets, went to Luong Van Can, then turned to Ly Thai To, Trang Tien, Hang Trong, then continued running in the direction of Hang Bai down Ham Long street and stopped at Nguyen Cong Tru street at 7am.

While running, the male runner monitors the map on a specialized tool, ensuring that the entire route will form the most beautiful flower shape.

After completing the total distance of 14.02km - a meaningful number on Valentine's Day - in 1 hour and 30 minutes, the man born in 1974 leisurely stopped by a roadside stall to buy a bouquet of flowers to give to his wife.

Netizens expressed their admiration for this man's romance with his wife. Young people even gave compliments such as: "Super cute", "husband of the year", "unique gift"...

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Chi Hoang said that the couple did not expect the romantic story on February 14 to attract the attention of the online community.

"After finishing the race, I went home, opened the map with the rose, and wished my wife a happy Valentine's Day. My wife was sleeping and quickly woke up in surprise. She responded with a sweet kiss as a thank you," said Mr. Chi Hoang.

In previous years, on February 14, he often gave his wife a bouquet of roses and went out to eat with the whole family. This year, the male runner wanted to have a unique gift for his wife.

The idea of creating a rose shape for his wife has been cherished by Mr. Chi Hoang for a long time. Previously, the male runner and his friends participated in the 2024 and 2025 shape runs to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new year, so they have experience in the process of "drawing" the running route.

"In addition to creating unexpected joy, I want to encourage people to participate in running through this gift. Those who have participated in this sport should continue to practice diligently every day," said Mr. Chi Hoang.

It is known that Chi Hoang and his wife share a passion for running. Up to now, he has participated in more than 200 different races across the country, successfully conquering the 42km and 70km milestones.

This man's path to running was very coincidental.

"Seven years ago, when I was working at a foreign company in Vietnam, the Japanese director encouraged his employees to participate in a relay race. I enthusiastically participated and realized the health benefits of this sport. At that time, I thought to myself, if only I had known about running sooner," he shared.

Seeing her husband's passion, Ms. Huong - Mr. Chi Hoang's wife - decided to put on her shoes and join in running. Initially, this woman started with 5,000 steps a day, then moved on to walking, running short distances, learning how to breathe and maintain endurance.

To date, she has been her husband's companion in marathons. The couple also joins a group of more than 100 members who share a passion for running, cycling... to improve their health.

Happy marriage

Chi Hoang and his wife have a happy marriage with 3 children. The couple got married in 1998, after 7 years of dating.

"We met when we were students at the English Department of the University of Foreign Languages, now Hanoi University. While participating in school activities, she and I had the opportunity to talk more and then fell in love without realizing it," the father of three shared.

When they first met, Ms. Huong left an impression on Mr. Chi Hoang not only with her beauty but also with her hard-working and disciplined personality in life. Seeing her classmate always achieving good academic results, the young student reminded himself to constantly strive.

After 27 years of marriage, this man is proud that he and his wife have never had a loud argument, although in life there are times when there are disagreements.

Talking about the secret to staying happy, Mr. Chi Hoang said: "My wife and I are determined to maintain mutual respect and talk frankly about everything in life. When an argument occurs, both of us need to keep our composure and wait until we are calm to talk and help each other understand each other better."

In life, the father of three often likes to create surprises for his wife. That is considered the way Mr. Chi Hoang uses to "rekindle" love and bring happiness to his wife.

"I like to research recipes, buy ingredients and go into the kitchen to make delicious dishes to surprise my wife. It's just a small action, but husbands will create a happy atmosphere in the home after a day of work," he revealed.
