The fulcrum and driving force of Quang Tri

Quang Tri was the first province to be completely liberated in March 1975 in the process of liberating the South and unifying the country. Throughout history and the past 50 years of peace, Quang Tri has always shown its heroic spirit, affirmed its important strategic position, and has been building in line with the process of integration and development with the country.

Heroic and responsible

The old years still leave their mark on the fields, mountains, rivers, and famous revolutionary relics in Quang Tri with countless proud stories about our ancestors.

The red mark of the March Revolution is always deeply imprinted in the minds of many people in Quang Tri. Entering the second half of 1974, the situation on the battlefield changed dramatically in a direction increasingly favorable to the revolution. In that situation, in the conclusion of the Politburo Conference held from September 30 to October 8, 1974, General Secretary Le Duan stated: This is a favorable opportunity for our people to completely liberate the South, achieving complete victory for the national and democratic revolution. There is no other opportunity besides this opportunity.

The Politburo set the immediate key task of mobilizing the greatest efforts of the entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people in both regions, launching a general offensive and uprising, developing the revolutionary war to a high level, moving towards destroying and disintegrating the entire central lair of the Saigon government, regaining power for the people, completely liberating the South, and reunifying the country.

Until March 1975, Quang Tri still had 15% of the southern area held by the Saigon puppet government. The campaign to completely liberate Quang Tri in March 1975 culminated at 0:00 on March 9, 1975, when our forces destroyed the enemy's Mai Linh Military Sub-region. By the end of March 19, 1975, all Saigon government troops in Hai Lang district fled to Thua Thien-Hue, and our troops liberated Hai Lang district. Quang Tri province was completely liberated.

Quang Tri quickly rose from the pain, bravely, clearly identified the responsibility of solidarity, harmony to rebuild the homeland with infinite gratitude and respect for the past of the nation. The province has more than 100 commune-level administrative units, and almost every commune has been awarded the title of hero. Hai Thuong commune alone of Hai Lang district has 94 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and more than 2,000 martyrs. Descendants of Hai Thuong commune voluntarily contributed to building the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Memorial.

Currently, the province has 3 districts Cam Lo, Vinh Linh, Hai Lang recognized by the Prime Minister as meeting new rural standards; many communes are building advanced, model new rural areas. The province's infrastructure has received focused, strategic investment. The material and spiritual life of the people is always improving. The average income by March 2025 will reach 82 million VND/person, more than 25 times higher than in 1990.

Industrial and service development

Comrade Nguyen Dang Quang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Tri province, said that the above "launching pad" is the fulcrum and driving force for Quang Tri to enter a new period with the development mindset of an industrial-service province according to the clearly defined Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030 and vision to 2050. In particular, investing in completing transport infrastructure, especially Quang Tri Airport and My Thuy deep-water port area, is considered the top priority political task.

Located in an important strategic position, Quang Tri has great potential to develop into a strong province in all aspects. The Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress sets the goal of striving to make Quang Tri a fairly developed province of the country by 2030.

Quang Tri becomes one of the comprehensive economic centers of the North Central and Central regions, a logistics and goods transit point of Southeast Asia and transport corridors in the ASEAN region and the Mekong sub-region. The key task is to build the province into a clean energy center of the central region by 2030, develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector, and build a quality and efficient logistics infrastructure.

The coastal area and Con Co island are the focus for the development of gas industry, multi-industry industry, logistics, integrated service tourism areas, coastal urban areas and environmentally friendly aquaculture and seafood processing complexes; developing the Southeast Economic Zone, Cua Viet-Cua Tung-Con Co tourist area. By 2050, Quang Tri will become a province with a strong economy with the main structure of industry and services, the driving force for development of the North Central and Central regions; national defense and security are ensured.

According to comrade Nguyen Dang Quang, Quang Tri has been focusing on directing the key programs and projects. These days, the Quang Tri Airport Project is being deployed to complete the aircraft parking area and continue to build important items, striving to put it into operation in June 2026.

The My Thuy deep-water port project, a special maritime project, is being accelerated. The province strives to complete two ports to receive ships with a capacity of 30,000-50,000 tons by the end of 2025; by 2026, construction will be completed on two more ports to receive ships with a capacity of 100,000 tons. These two projects are identified as playing an important role in attracting investment, contributing to maximizing the advantages of port services, maritime transport and related services, becoming a hub for goods transit between seaports in the central region and internationally, strengthening regional development linkages.

Along with that, the Hai Lang LNG Power Project in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, Phase 1 with a capacity of 1,500 MW, is completing the feasibility study report, adjusting related planning and investment policies. The coastal road project connecting the East-West Economic Corridor is urgently under construction. Quang Tri Industrial Park is bustling with the sound of machines rushing to complete infrastructure to call for secondary investors to invest in development...

The province focuses on implementing the approved provincial planning well; continuing to adjust and complete the planning of the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone. The provincial planning is an important orientation for businesses, investors, and partners to have a basis to learn, research, and promote investment in the area. The planning implementation orientations of Quang Tri are consistent with the development strategy of the region, of businesses, and deep integration. The province focuses on building mechanisms and policies, mobilizing all resources, including state capital, public-private partnerships, direct and indirect investment, and effectively using all legal resources to promote growth drivers.

“Quang Tri always wants to implement the planning results appropriately to create material wealth. Strive to do well so that people can benefit from the implementation of the planning, bringing a prosperous life to the people,” Comrade Nguyen Dang Quang shared his determination. Quang Tri will continue to make efforts so that this land is properly rewarded for the great sacrifices and losses in the history of the country, as well as have more motivation for development.
