Promoting the role of the Front in poverty reduction, in recent times, the Front at all levels in Quang Tri province has actively coordinated and implemented the construction of a livelihood support model for the poor and people in difficult circumstances. Thanks to that, many poor and near-poor households have jobs, income, and gradually escaped poverty and become rich legitimately.

Many livelihood support models
Dong Ha City is considered one of the localities that has implemented diverse and effective models to support livelihoods for poor and near-poor households. In particular, there are significant contributions from the Fatherland Front at all levels in the city.
With the motto "using people's strength to build people's lives", from practice, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city has built and implemented the project "Improving the quality of propaganda work, mobilizing people to practice civilized lifestyle in funerals in Dong Ha city" associated with the implementation of the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas".
From 2019-2024, the City's Fatherland Front at all levels will coordinate to build and implement livelihood support and sustainable poverty reduction with many good models and innovative new methods, such as: motorbikes, super clean sugarcane juicers, clothes dryers, sewing machines, construction scaffolding, sales carts and bread ovens, motorbike washing equipment, industrial vacuum cleaners, breeding chickens, breeding pigs, sales cabinets, fishing cages, overlock machines...
Mr. Tran Nhu Loi in Quarter 7, Ward 3 shared: “In the past, my family was a poor household, my wife and I were not in good health, we did not know what to do to escape poverty sustainably. With the call from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Ha City, and the mobilization of funds from organizations and individuals to support gas stoves and sales cabinets, my family boldly opened a shop selling breakfast sandwiches. We did not have to borrow much for initial investment, so we only focused on processing and creating delicious dishes to serve customers. Thanks to this new source of income, my family soon escaped poverty, and is now a near-poor household.”
From mobilized sources, in the 2019-2024 term, the City Front at all levels surveyed, supported the construction and repair of 145 solidarity houses, with a total amount of more than 4.2 billion VND; supported livelihoods for 160 poor and near-poor households with a total amount of more than 822 million VND...
In addition, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations at all levels support poor and near-poor households to access preferential capital to invest in production and business; and provide guidance to poor households on knowledge, skills, and experience in production and business. Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Ha City Nguyen Hong Hai said: "In general, the livelihood models of the Fatherland Front at all levels of the city support people's needs, create livelihoods for poor and near-poor households to escape poverty sustainably, and contribute significantly to the results of implementing the local sustainable poverty reduction target".
Escape poverty through deer farming
Previously, the life of people in Trieu Nguyen commune, Dakrong district was very difficult, mainly relying on agricultural production. The commune still did not have many new and effective economic models for hunger eradication and poverty reduction. In 2018, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune visited and studied new rural construction in Ha Tinh province, including visiting deer farming models in Huong Son district.
Realizing that this model brings high economic value and is suitable for local conditions, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune has developed a project and proposed to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district to support poor and near-poor households to implement it. Accordingly, each household raising 1 deer will be supported with 10 million VND and many other policies such as preferential interest rate loans, technical training support, finding product outlets, etc.

At the end of 2018, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district decided to support 4 poor and near-poor households in Trieu Nguyen (each household 1 million VND) for people to implement the model. In addition, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune mobilized 5 more households outside the program to implement the model, bringing the total number of households participating in the model to 9 households with 18 supported deer.
In 2019, with support from the new rural construction fund, the commune continued to support 7 households/14 deer. The unit mobilized 16 households to invest in 20 more deer, increasing the number of deer to 52. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung in Xuan Lam village was one of the first households to participate in the model and maintain good deer farming.
Ms. Dung shared: “With the support of 10 million VND from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district and commune, along with the family's counterpart fund, I invested in raising a deer worth 18 million VND. After a short time, I found that raising deer was easier than raising pigs, buffaloes, cows... because they ate less, and the food was leaves that were always available, so it did not cost much, so I continued to invest in 2 more deer. For more than 3 years now, the herd of deer that are ready to produce velvet has helped the family have a good income, an average of about 20 million VND per year."
Besides the advantages, the livestock farming process is developing well, but in 2020, the commune encountered a flood that was too big and too long, causing great economic damage, including a lot of livestock damage, 26 deer died.
“Overcoming the difficulties encountered in the early stages of raising deer, households continue to maintain the model. Raising deer is much easier than raising other species and brings in quite high incomes. On average, each deer from the third year onwards brings in an income of 6-10 million/year. If the breed is good and the animals are raised well, some deer can earn up to 20 million/year.
Currently, households have begun to develop their herds by raising more female deer to multiply the herd. The model has contributed to helping the poor have conditions to escape poverty sustainably; diversifying poverty reduction models in mountainous communes", Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Trieu Nguyen Commune Nguyen Ngoc Hiep affirmed.
