Support point of people at Na Bung border

Located in two particularly difficult communes, Na Bung and Vang Dan, in Nam Po district (Dien Bien province), in addition to the task of preserving and protecting national sovereignty and border security, the officers and soldiers of Na Bung Border Post (under the Dien Bien Provincial Border Guard Command) always care about and help people develop the economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and foster strong military-civilian solidarity.

As one of the poor families who regularly receive support and help from officers and soldiers of Na Bung Border Post, both materially and spiritually, Ms. Mua Thi My in Na Bung 2 village, Na Bung commune was extremely moved when telling us about the kindness that the border guards have shown to her family and the villagers. She said: “More than ten years ago, my family was very poor; we were hungry all the time, year after year. It was such extreme hunger that my husband and I only wished to eat to warm our stomachs, so we couldn’t think of what to do or how to have food for a long time. In 2016, when officers and soldiers from Na Bung Border Guard Station came to the village to survey and understand the economic situation of each family, I proactively explained my situation and my wish to be supported with plants and seeds for raising livestock and growing crops instead of monoculture of upland rice. After that, my family and many families in Na Bung 2 village were supported with seeds and plant varieties such as cinnamon and cardamom by the commune and Na Bung Border Guard Station. Thanks to the support and dedicated guidance of officers and soldiers, the people in the village have the awareness to rise up and not rely on others like before; the families’ economies have gradually stabilized.”

Also a household that Na Bung border guards cared for and helped to overcome difficulties, Mr. Thao A Sang in Nam Tat 1 village, Na Bung commune said: In the past, the life of the H'Mong people was miserable because of all kinds of evils originating from growing and smoking opium to trading and using drugs... Thanks to the Na Bung Border Guard Station's persistent propaganda, mobilization, and persuasion, people gradually understood the harmful effects of opium and drugs; understanding that growing opium plants is a violation of the law, the villagers did not grow, smoke opium, or drink much alcohol. The evils caused by opium in the village decreased sharply. The people of Nam Tat worked hard and took care of their children's education.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dinh Thuan, Chief of Na Bung Border Guard Station, said: In the area under the management of the station are two extremely difficult communes, with 1,770 households and nearly 10,000 people. Most of the population is H'Mong ethnic group, the poverty rate is more than 50% and much higher than other communes. Therefore, in addition to performing the task of ensuring border security, preserving territorial integrity, border lines, and landmarks in the assigned area, the Party Committee and commander of the station pay special attention to developing plans to organize movements for youth union members, officers, and soldiers to participate. Typical activities include: helping people take care of crops, harvest rice, and build houses of gratitude for people; organizing visits and giving gifts to policy families on holidays and Tet; creating conditions for the station's youth union to exchange and establish friendship with the youth union branches of villages and hamlets in the two communes. The Party Committee and commanders directly implement the programs "Helping children go to school" and "Adopted children of border guards" to support the care and upbringing of orphaned students and those in difficult circumstances with no place to rely on.

On the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday, the station calls for organizing zero-dong markets and giving away thousands of banh chung to poor families. Through specific and practical actions, over the past 5 years, officers and soldiers of Na Bung Border Post have helped many families escape poverty. People in the border area understand more about the meaning and importance of the poverty reduction program being implemented by all levels and sectors as an opportunity for people to have resources to rise up, so each family and each person must actively implement it.

Recently, on March 1, at the border commune of Na Bung, Dien Bien Provincial Youth Union, Dien Bien Provincial Border Guard Command, and Na Bung Border Guard Station jointly organized the launching ceremony of Youth Month 2025 with the theme "March on the border". Inheriting the results and experience of mobilizing and helping people on the border that Na Bung Border Guard Station has implemented, at the launching ceremony, the units agreed to focus on implementing key activities according to their functions and tasks, such as: organizing activities to care for and accompany people on the border; mobilizing young people and children of ethnic minorities in the border to proactively promote their role and youth, and rise up to take control of their lives. Right at the launching ceremony of the program "March on the border", Dien Bien Provincial Youth Union organized the inauguration and handover of the project "Lighting up the border" to the people of Na Bung 3 village; Together with the people of the villages in Na Bung commune, they performed the flag-raising ceremony and sang the national anthem at milestone number 49; and mobilized troops to clean up and clear the road leading to the milestone. At the same time, the units organized visits, medical examinations, provided free medicine and gave gifts to the poor and students in the two communes of Na Bung and Vang Dan...
