On the morning of November 18, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision to transform Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics into Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH). The decision was signed by the Prime Minister on October 4.

Also at the ceremony, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the decision to recognize the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics Council, consisting of 23 members, with Professor Nguyen Dong Phong recognized as Chairman of the University Council.

In addition, Professor Su Dinh Thanh was recognized as the Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics. UEH also has 3 Vice Directors: Dr. Bui Quang Hung, Associate Professor Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao, Dr. Dinh Cong Khai.

UEH officially became one of 7 higher education institutions in Vietnam operating under the "multidisciplinary, multi-field university" model, including: Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Danang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.

'The university model is a suitable model for implementing a multidisciplinary structure'

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son highly appreciated the results UEH has achieved in its 48-year journey of construction and development.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said: "The new journey with the new name of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics also comes with new challenges. This unit still has a lot of work to do to perfect the multi-level university structure with a tight structure of modern governance". The Deputy Minister said that higher education institutions need to perfect their long-term development strategies and orientations, realize an effective university governance model, perfect their organizational and operational regulations... "The university model is a suitable model to implement a multi-disciplinary structure", the Deputy Minister emphasized.

But, according to the Deputy Minister, changing a model, an orientation, from choice to full and effective operation is a long way. A university operating under a new model, with an advanced governance model, that transformation needs to be carried out simultaneously and synchronously, and it is necessary to see all the challenges that lie ahead.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Training suggested that UEH should continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Party and State's policies on education and training, focusing on the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. In addition, it is necessary to continue to strongly innovate the structure and organization to truly become a university with a multidisciplinary, multi-field research orientation and sustainable development, meeting the requirements of quality education closely linked to practice. In particular, it is necessary to continue to innovate the program, content, teaching and learning methods, promote scientific research, and build the school into a high-quality multidisciplinary, multi-field scientific research center in the region and the world.

How does UEH operate?

UEH is a university developed into a "multi-disciplinary, multi-field university", including 3 levels of administration: University level, College level, Branch level and School/Institute level.

Among the training units, there are the School of Business; School of Economics, Law and State Management; School of Technology and Design; Vinh Long Branch.

The School of Business includes the following faculties: Administration, International Business-Marketing, Finance, Banking, Accounting, Tourism; Institute of Human Resource Development and Business. The Board of Directors of the School of Business includes: Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Trang as Vice Principal in charge and Dr. Dinh Thi Thu Hong as Vice Principal.

The School of Economics, Law and Public Administration includes the following faculties: Economics, Public Finance, Law, Public Administration and other institutes and centers. The school is headed by Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Khanh Nam as Vice Principal.

The School of Technology and Design includes the following faculties: Mathematics-Statistics, Business Information Technology, Media Design and other institutes and centers. The Board of Directors of the School of Technology and Design includes: Professor-Doctor Su Dinh Thanh concurrently serving as the School's Principal, Dr. Park Young June as Honorary Principal and 2 Vice Principals: Associate Professor-Doctor Trinh Thuy Anh, Dr. Thai Kim Phung.

Since 2021, UEH has determined its development strategy to become a multidisciplinary and sustainable university by establishing 3 member schools along with Vinh Long Branch. The current training scale of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is more than 36,000 students, with 38 undergraduate majors, 19 master's majors and 14 doctoral majors.
