Teacher accused of beating and calling herself "sir"

(NLDO) - The Department of Education and Training of Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa) is clarifying the case of a parent accusing a homeroom teacher of beating a student and using inappropriate form of address.

The Lao Dong newspaper received a complaint from Ms. Tran Thi Xuan Phuong - the parent of a student studying in class 2/3, TL 1 Primary School (Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province) - accusing teacher NTKT of beating a student and using language that does not meet professional standards.

According to Ms. Phuong, the math program requires students to memorize the multiplication and division tables of tables 2 and 5. But in reality, she makes them memorize all the multiplication and division tables from 2 to 9 in a short time.

When the students did not learn, the homeroom teacher put pressure on them with threatening words and beat them with a wooden ruler. The students had to learn a large amount of knowledge in a short time with anxiety and fear... This was an extremely anti-educational act.

According to this parent, the homeroom teacher often addresses the students in grades 2/3 as "I/me - Mr./Mrs.". The parent believes that the teacher addresses them like a fishmonger, which negatively affects the character education of the students. Many students, after coming home from school, wonder to their parents why the teacher addresses them like that.

In addition, the parent also said that when the students submitted missing notebooks as required, they were also beaten by Ms. NTKT with a wooden ruler. The students who completed the homework first were also beaten, but some were not, leading to the perception that the teacher was biased and unfair. After the parents directly reported, the homeroom teacher again oppressed and pressured the students...

"The parents agree that the teacher is strict in teaching the children, but the teacher hitting the children in places like the shoulders, backs... and scolding them is unacceptable behavior. The above incidents not only make the students depressed in their learning spirit but also make me always feel worried and insecure about each day of school for the children. I have repeatedly given my opinion to the homeroom teacher and principal, but the classroom situation has not been completely improved" - the parent said.

According to this parent, during the two meetings, the school requested to meet the homeroom teacher to confront her but was refused. Some parents' wishes are to change the homeroom teacher and install surveillance cameras in the classroom.

The school does not defend

Reporters from the Lao Dong Newspaper worked with the Board of Directors of TL 1 Primary School to clarify the contents of the complaint. According to the principal, after parents complained about the homeroom teacher of class 2/3, the school asked Ms. NTKT to explain the incident. At the same time, the school also worked with 3 parents who were upset with Ms. KT as well as to clarify the incident in the complaint.

The principal said that when parents said their students were beaten, the school only recorded the incident, but the parents did not provide any accompanying photos. If there were photos, they needed to be verified to see if they were correct or if they had been edited.

The KT homeroom teacher did gently hit the students, but at the request of the parents, to correct their studies. Regarding the teaching of the multiplication table in advance, the school said that the teacher only encouraged and did not hit the students.

Regarding communication, the school admitted that the teacher's use of the form of address "you - me" was not up to standard and not in accordance with regulations. The school did not defend the teacher on this issue but used it as a lesson learned. Teacher KT also requested to meet the parents directly to apologize for this issue.

According to the principal, the parents' request to change the homeroom teacher has not yet been approved by other parents because there are only 2 months left until the end of the school year. The head of the Parents' Association, based on the voting results, also submitted a request to keep Ms. KT as the homeroom teacher until the end of the year. In addition, the school only has 2 teachers, one is a subject teacher, the other is a contract teacher, so she is not suitable to be the homeroom teacher.

Regarding the installation of cameras to monitor teachers, the school did not agree because there were no regulations on this matter. "For some unfortunate incidents, the school also apologized to the parents. The school will take corrective measures to avoid unfortunate incidents," said the principal.

Angry, lack of self-control so the form of address is not standard

Meanwhile, in her explanation, Ms. NTKT said: "I threatened the children to try to memorize, but I did not beat any of them for not knowing the multiplication table as the parents reported in the petition."

The teacher also admitted: "Sometimes when I'm angry that the children don't listen, I lack self-control and sometimes use inappropriate forms of address. I wish parents would sincerely give me feedback so I can make adjustments. I will take note and learn from my experience in the future."

Besides, the teacher also said: "There are some students who have not finished their homework so they hide it and do not submit their notebooks. I reminded them to be self-disciplined but they still did not bring their notebooks. I said "anyone who does not submit their notebooks will be beaten" but in fact I have not beaten anyone."

At the same time, the teacher also affirmed that she is always fair to the whole class, so there is no bullying or pressure on the students.

The above incident has been received by the Department of Education and Training of Nha Trang City. The Department also requested the Primary School Group of the unit to verify the information and report the incident.

In addition, Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Minh, Chairwoman of Tan Tien Ward People's Committee, said that on Monday (March 17), the ward will work with the school regarding the above incident.
