National Highway 50B is a traffic route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region, playing an important role in inter-regional connectivity. Therefore, investment in this route is very necessary.
This content was stated by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport in report No. 8682/SGTVT-KH sent to the Ministry of Transport on July 5, on the investment situation of projects on the urban traffic axis of Ho Chi Minh City - Long An - Tien Giang.
According to the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1454/QD-TTg dated September 1, 2021, the urban traffic axis of Ho Chi Minh City - Long An - Tien Giang is National Highway 50B with a length of 55 km and a scale of 6 lanes.
The starting point of the project is from Pham Hung Street, Ho Chi Minh City; the end point is at Trung Luong intersection, Tien Giang province.
Currently, National Highway 50B has been added to the Project to adjust the general planning of Ho Chi Minh City to 2040, with a vision to 2060 and the planning of Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Ho Chi Minh City is expanding National Highway 50, part of the project to be completed by the end of 2024. |
During the period 2016 - 2018, the consortium of Ho Chi Minh City State Financial Investment Company, Nhat Nguyen An Company Limited and 620 Infrastructure Investment and Development Joint Stock Company studied and prepared a proposal for the project to build a road parallel to National Highway 50 (section through Ho Chi Minh City and part of Long An province under the form of public-private partnership, BT contract type).
The preliminary total investment of the project through Ho Chi Minh City and part of Long An province is 3,869 billion VND, investing in a scale of 6 lanes (4 motor vehicle lanes and 2 mixed vehicle lanes).
The project proposal prepared by the investor consortium has not been approved by the competent authority. Since the Law on Investment under the Public-Private Partnership Form No. 64/2020/QH14 does not stipulate the BT form, the investor has stopped proposing the project.
Regarding the section passing through Long An and Tien Giang provinces, in May 2020, all three localities with the route passing through sent official dispatches to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Transport proposing an investment plan to build the section passing through Long An and Tien Giang provinces and supporting investment capital for 3 bridges on this route.
By 2023, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has sent a dispatch to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang to propose sustainable development projects for the Mekong Delta region to adapt to climate change.
Of which, three bridges Can Giuoc, Vam Co Dong, Vam Co Tay use capital sponsored by Korea with a total investment of about 4,797 billion VND.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, National Highway 50B is a traffic route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region, playing an important role in inter-regional connectivity, reducing the load on National Highway 50, and promoting the development of urban areas and industrial parks and clusters along the route.
This route also contributes to solving the circulation of goods, reducing logistics costs, contributing to the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region, so research and investment in the route is very necessary.
Due to the urgent importance of this project, the Ho Chi Minh City transport management unit proposed that the Ministry of Transport take the lead in studying the investment plan for National Highway 50B, 55 km long.
