Goalkeeper De Gea has officially won the "Golden Glove" award for the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Premier League in the 2022-2023 season, after his competitor, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, conceded a goal in the match against Aston Villa.
Before the 37th round of the Premier League, De Gea held the record of 16 clean sheets, and Alisson Becker was the Spanish goalkeeper's direct competitor with 14 clean sheets. However, Ramsey's opening goal for Aston Villa against Liverpool on the evening of May 20th dashed Alisson Becker's hopes of competing for the "Golden Glove" award.
The reason is that, in the match taking place at the same time, De Gea kept his 17th clean sheet when MU defeated Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to the only goal of Casemiro. While MU has 2 matches left to play, Alisson Becker's Liverpool has only 1 match left and the chance for the Brazilian goalkeeper to compete with De Gea is gone. This also means that De Gea has become the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season and officially won the "Golden Glove" award.
This is the second time the MU goalkeeper has won the "Golden Glove" award, after the first time in the Premier League in the 2017-2018 season with 18 clean sheets.
De Gea's clean sheet streak for MU includes: Southampton (1-0, 0-0), Leicester City (1-0, 3-0), Newcastle United (0-0), Tottenham Hotspur (2-0), West Ham United (1-0), Nottingham Forest (3-0, 2-0), Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-0, 2-0), Bournemouth (3-0, 1-0), Leeds United (2-0), Brentford (1-0), Everton (2-0) and Aston Villa (1-0).
De Gea will break the record of 18 clean sheets in the 2017-2018 season if he can defeat Chelsea and Fulham in the remaining two home matches.
